When should I put my horse out at night again?

This is my first winter as a horse owner so I have no idea when horses should go out again at night. I've got a TBX. I've got a bit of pressure to get him out sooner rather than later because the cobs at the yard are going out again soon and if he's in without them he won't settle, in fact he gets himself into a real sweaty state. I only got him in Nov so little chance to get him used to being in on his own - will work on this over summer but right now I would worry about him hurting himself if he's the only one in.
What would anyone else do?
 
I think as long as he is rugged up accordingly you should turn him out with the cobs. My clipped TB has been out all Winter and it doesn't seem to have done him any harm.
 
Thats what I hoped...thanks. He's got a heavy and medium weight with necks - so far I've only used the heavy one when its been frosty / snow etc - would you use the heavy at night or medium?
 
He has a stable rug at night and he had a blanket clip but I've not had him done recently so he's got a good layer of growth coming back through. No shelter in the fields but good natural shelter, trees etc
 
My blanket clipped warmblood (tb x hanno) is out 24/7 in a 300gm t/o with neck at the moment and if it gets cold I pop a rug liner under. With plenty of hay and a hedge for shelter he is fine and hasn't dropped any weight at all.
 
my ish lives out fully clipped all yr. - she does have shelter, but i always work on they should have heavier rug if in stable as outside they can walk around to keep warm
 
agree with kezimac, also they need thicker rug when wet and windy than they do when its fine even if theres 6 inch of snow on the ground (but then they need hay or something to eat!). Bear in mind 80% of their warmth comes from eating not from rugs so an anorak and plenty of forage or grass is the best!
 
I aim for when the clocks change, but the last 2 yrs they have been out by mid march. I like to wait until the ground has dried up a little and grass is starting to come through so don't have to puy hay out.
