I use both... bands to secure the ends of the plaits, then thread to sew them up and in :-D

cant do it with bands, i find it much easier to sew them in. plus im a traditionalist and i think bands look awful

I use bands but only because I don't know how to use thread, if I did i'd sew though. I hardly ever plait though as horse is only in early stages of competitive career and haven't done much yet.

Just bands for eventing, but I sew them for dressage cos I like 'hooded' plaits

oooh ive seen them in an earring/hairband/tat shop, tehy werent strong enough for my mop but thts a good idea!

Am struggling to find anyone who knows how to do it as noone on the yard particularly competitive so they never really plait either. Does anyone know of any tutorial books or online things that are good at showing you?

yep...Claires boutique or something like that.....you really cant see them, much better than ordinary bands. They work really well for greys.

To make plaiting easier spray hair with setting lotion first, makes it stickier.

Only know how to sew plaits do not have a clue how to band!!

Oh I lied! I put thred but I actually do use both, I bunch the mane using bands but then get rid of the band bunch by bunch and I sew the plait up and in. Hate actually plaiting with bands, just can't do it and looks awful. Much quicker with thread!

I put the plaits in with bands then roll them using thread. Can't see the bands at all.

I used bands only because though I do know how to plait with thread, im alot slower and they day before an event I would never have loads of time so using bands was the easier, quicker option. They still looked neat and presentable

i use band and plaiting tape...never been taught to use thread but would love to learn how!
