And do you worry about them like me?? I am off on a weeks holiday next Thursday and I hate leaving the horses. 1 is staying here and being looked after by friends and the other 3 are being turned away for the week at a friends yard on some nice grass. Still worry though.

I leave mine at home with my sis, we run the yard together and she knows what she's doing, and they're out at grass so nothing to actually DO, but yes, I still worry. No reflection on sis.

What are holidays?

I'm on DIY livery, but I pay for full livery when I go away - YO is brill and does whatever you ask- mates keep an eye out also but yes I still worry - yard is first port of call when we get back to check all ok...(and it always is,thank god!)

I get Nats_uk to look after mine

Never worry - I know she would call me if there were any problems.

If I'm working away, I tend to call to find out how they are, but thats more to do with the fact I am bored and have nothing better to do stuck in travel inn hundreds of miles from home!

I think she worries more when I look after hers - I forgot to put his water in once

forgot his water drinker was switched off! I did go back in the middle of the night when I remembered tho!

if its a couple of days we get a local woman to see them twice a day, but if we went for a week or more (haven't got round to such a thing for 3years!) we would get a local private yard to have our 3.

Well I have three horses...so if I go away, for, say 4 days, I'd put three lines of four feeds out in a row...then tell them to eat one feed each day.
I give them each 200g of salt the day before I go - this makes them drink plenty of water to see them through til I get back.

I use my holiday pay money to pay for the cost of sending my horse to my trainers yard to be schooled....that way I get back from my holiday refreshed and have a lovely horse to sit on!

my best friend stays at my house and looks after the animals here and then she goes down to see to the horses for me ... she will call me in a few days or so into the holiday to let me know allis well.

i trust her with them all and she looks after them very well indeed .. all she wants in return is 200 fags bringing back lol .....

I am lucky that George is on full livery so nothing really changes for him except this mad woman does come up to see him each day! We've just had 2 weeks away and I was dreading leaving him, but he was fine and our YM rode him a few times for me - couldn't help sending a few 'is he ok' texts though!

Going away 2 weeks in august am worrying all ready about buddy, though lady on yard is going to look after him and im sure all the kids will give him soo much attention as always. I think we all still worry a bit though even when we know they are going to be more than looked after.

I paid another livery/friend to do mine when I went away for two weeks not long ago.
I then spent two weeks worrying, e-mailing and totting up a huge phone bill

Of course he was perfectly fine, I don't know why I thought he couldn't live without me

[/ QUOTE ] exactly! what are holidays, not had one in 17 years of having my horses, we have booked 1 for next year, but i am worring about them already

just leave him in the field with all the other liverys. if there is anything wrong YO will sort it out

get a friend to look after them, they're all out 24/7 so its not too much to ask of her
wink.gif
but i do worry about them , not because i don't trust my friend but because i know it is sods law that if anything is going to happen it will be while i'm away

I don't have holidays. Actually, I don't even have a week off work either as i use my holiday entitlement up in money! There is always something i need for the neds. I hate holidays anyway. I do feel guilty for my hubby though, he loves the packing, airport thing. There will be time enough for doing nothing when i am arthritic and senile. x

My last so called holiday was to Ireland for my cousins wedding before I had a another horse

Going to Amsterdam in October though
grin.gif
in which case I'll pay the YM to do her

Depends on alot of things.
If its for a long time I find someone i trust to just hack out

but most of the time, especially when i've been schooling alot up to going on holiday, I turn them away for a few weeks.

Gives them time to think about everything i've been teaching them and I come back happy and they come back happy.

everyone wins!

So what is a holiday LOL!!!

I speak very nicely to OH if I am going away competing and buy him copius amounts of cider! or if we are all going away its like a military operation prebooking friends, they all get turned out except the itchy titch and they get checked twice a day by friends and fed etc!!

Although last time we had a holiday "away" was....errmmm Miniature Horse of the Year show last year in freezing cold!!!

I share my horse care routine with a friend on a day to day basis in the week. I do mornings for both our horses and she does evenings. This means that when either of us goes on holiday the other steps up and it is very little disruption for the horses and we both know the others well enough to know how to deal with situations.
We both still worry though and she is currently on a 2 week holiday, no doubt worrying silly about her mare and resisting the urge to text me.
