just musing really- its quite scary that what you write on here can be read by anyone... sometimes i sort of forget that when i'm posting. but then having said that, i wouldn't say anything on here that i wouldn't say in real life... what i do find a bit freaky is the people who blatantly follow all your posts and go on your profile page and stuff but then never respond to any posts or let on that they have an interest in you...is it just me that thinks that is odd/ a bit wierd?! ;)

LOL, I have loads of followers judging by my profile page! I make it a rule that I don't put anything I wouldn't say to someone's face, but then I am quite gobby anyway so that doesn't mean much!

i think its weird when you read posts and the person doesnt ever give their real name and hide behind some kind of persona?
i like to think id post things id say to a person face to face- but maybe im a little too polite when i type? more blunt face to face???

by the way- not hiding the names CLAIRE!!:)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> everyone dashes off to look at Diggerbez profile page..

Grandmother's old saying: "If your lip would avoid a slip of 5 thing be aware, of whom you speak, to whom you speak and how and when and where"

I have found this to be very helpful, for example I have just found out my farrier, who is my YO's friend is on here, I never knew. Luckily I have great respect for both, but would be in trouble if I slagged them off.

I believe that you shouldn't type anything you wouldn't be prepared to say face to face. Sometimes I think people get entirely too 'brave' hiding behind their monitors. What's that phrase??? Keyboard Warriors....... I don't think it's creepy though.

I've made more new friends through this forum and others than I ever would out there in the real world - it's like a huge club.

I don't post on here very often (as you can probably see by my count) but I am a serial lurker and have been for quite a while. If I read a bit of advice that I think about using, and that sounds sensible, I'll look at the profile page just to see their other posts. That way, I can decide for myself whether the advice is worth paying attention to. I don't think that makes me weird, just sensible.
As for joining in, I really can't be bothered. Today is clearly the exception ;)

When you are looking at a list of threads, it's easy to click on the username instead of the thread. Then you open the profile by accident and get listed as someone who has looked at it. Nothing sinister in that, it's very common.

Yes I've done that several times when I want to go to the last reply on a thread, and have ended up on the user's profile instead. I feel all embarrassed and click off quickly, but of course your name stays!

I always wonder why there are so many unregistered people on here.

When I last looked there was 451 unregistered people and 167 registered members, what are all the unregistered people looking at and why don't they join in? ;)

Ditto-makes lif much more simple :D

Have to say I have looked at pofiles of people I have not "talked" to much or posted to-I'm nosey so it's hard not to when they post about a problem or someone refers to a previous post I have not seen.

What I find amazing is people who post on these sort of forums but blatently lie!! It's like they don't expect anyone they actually know to read them!!! There's one girl who posts on another horse forum who is writing absolutely rubbish about 'her' horses (only 1 is actually hers the others are loans or her families) and sprouts absolute down right lies!! Makes herself out to be some wonderful horsewoman where as in fact the RSPCA have been involved in her animals welfare for the last year!! Her horses are never shod, wear any old saddle they can find, rarely wormed and certainly don't get medical attention when required but she still goes on a open public forum saying these lies.

I think maybe it's just human nature to be nosey ;) you read a post that somebody makes and you are curious to now more about them. I read stuff on here and think that person seems interesting/nice/friendly so you pop into the profile and take a look, after all it is called Public Profile :p Don't think there is anything strange about it  I'd be quite worried if nobody looked at mine at all :(

What gets me is that there are 40 people reading Old New Lounge - wtf is that all about? Is New New Lounge not exciting enough for them? (it certainly is for me at the moment) :)

That!

TBH without sounding horrible I dont take a 'personal' interest in the poster, I am more interested in their experiences with horses and their knowledge. I dont really post a lot in soapbox or to the more 'personal' posts because of the reasons you state. I once posted something pretty personal and I worried about it for ages wishing I hadnt. I know some people have made good friends in real life with other people on HHO which is lovely for them. I do think HHO is a very valuable resource for people like me who have horses at home and therefore cant share horsey knowledge / chat etc and some HHOers have been lovely sending very nice PMs when e.g. I had my lad PTS. But you are right, it could be open to a lot of abuse especially for the 'younger' contingent if they post too much info.

Ive often clicked on the profile bit in error, but I am also quite nosey! If someone has replied to my thread I do sometimes have a quick peek, especially if they have said something useful - or if they have moaned lol!

I don't personally put anything on my profile I wouldnt want anyone else to see anyway.

Most people have been really helpful and friendly on here and gave me a good deal of support and advice, especially when I lost my boy. It actually really helped me to hear from other people who had suffered the same thing.

Also we have some v knowledgable peeps on here who have good advice, share and share alike I say :-)

:D ah now am understanding why people might look at profiles more...i'll let you off (you bunch of wierdos :p)
i don't really have anything on my profile- do others put loads of things on there?

stalkers.. all of them!

I think every-one would do very well to remember that any-one and every-one can read anything you post on a public forum. Even if the forum was only open to members, you still have no idea who most of them are IRL.
I am always very wary of posting info which could identify me, especially as I am a teacher and we have to be particularly careful in this respect.
I do wonder sometimes why people feel the need to start threads about 'what is your horse's name' and 'what work do you do' ' what security arrangements do you have' etc. I wonder even more why any-one would post an answer to these questions. I tend to think that these are nothing more sinister than very young members exercising their fingers but of course it is always possible that they have been posted by fraudsters trying to steal identities.

:) I wish you all well if you go on my profile page, and several have, half of the last ten are names that I don't even recognise:confused: So I have just been reading their profiles and latest posts:D

There is absolutely nothing on my profile apart from the answer to that question.

I make it a point never to say anything on here, publicly, or in pms, that I wouldn't, in true Valleys style, write on a sheet and hang out of a window for all to see;)

I've had 58 people look at my profile (not that there's anything on it!), several of whom I can't recollect having seen posts from . . . .
. . . however, through the forum I have met someone who I consider to be a friend and to whom I am very shortly (like, this weekend) going to entrust my home-bred baby for eventer training and that's not something I will do lightly as she's very precious!
