I think I've washed a dog about twice in all the 50+ years I've had them. Is this a thing now? (I mean other than the obvious show dog primping. And poodles).
Oh yeah, of course: I just chuck 'em off the sofa, throw them into the Muddy Dog Room, or spot wash. They looove their Eau de Poo.It is if they roll in fox shite and then wish to cuddle on the sofa with you ???

En suite shower and she doesn't come out until she's shaken twice. She knows the rules now! She has her own doggy towel and I dry her down with that first and then a quick blast with my Remington hair dryer, then put her in a 'dog robe' and bury her under a throw on the sofa till she sleeps it off!

I have whippets, they are not acquainted with mud .
