Where do you carry your phone?

Before riding tights I used to use a running arm band for my phone in summer when I didn't have coat pockets. The best thing about it was it would leave a tan line and I'm so white it was the only way I could tell I had a smidge of a tan! I also refuse to have a big phone for this very reason. My technophile OH thinks I'm crazy as is always searching for different holders so I can have the latest phone. He doesn't get that I really don't care!

Dehydration can make head injuries much worse...so yes, ensuring good hydration at a local pub or avoiding over heating through ice cream is the sort of emergency I have it for :D

Lockdown has been amazing for encouraging places to accept contactless / Apple pay. I no longer need the emergency fiver as I just pay for everything with my phone!

I wear a thin hi viz coat even when really hot weather and have phone in pocket of that. It is one designed for cycling so to be fair don't generally melt.

I was on a first aid course years ago and we were advised that the best place was on your arm, their reasoning being that it had a greater chance of causing injury to your hip/leg if it was in a hip pocket/down your boot or your ribs/sternum if shoved down your bra and also a greater chance of it being broken by you landing on it, leaving you without a phone to call for help - I think at one point he remarked that you could potentially walk with a broken arm but not a broken leg. That said, I usually shove my phone into the pocket on my tabard or an inner pocket of my jacket..............

They may not look hard-wearing but that's deceptive, they're tough as anything
I've pretty much lived in mine (Dublin ones) for the past year and a bit - not just for riding but mucking out and gardening too
There's one tiny hole where a thorn got them, otherwise no obvious wear or damage

I love the thigh phone pocket although with a big hanky in there too I look like a bee loaded up with pollen

I have had Noble Outfitters, Derby House and Horseware riding tights and all have holes in, have lost their stretch or have gone thin in just over a year. The spandex threads break down over time too (and get flushed into the rivers via the washing machine). :( I hate buying synthetic materials but will do when that is the best option. My experience of riding tights is that they are not great. I ride for about 15 hours per week (roughly) and walk and muck out in jods/tights/whatever I am wearing so I guess they work reasonably hard. I have several pairs of Bombachas (argentine riding trousers) that are made of cotton and really are tough but they are less conventional looking. I have had one pair for nearly 10 years though I don't wear them to ride every day. Traditional jods and breeches in a largely woven cotton are pretty good too...

I tend to wear hi vis cycling jackets or gilts as they are lightweight and have good pockets, when it's too hot for these and I'm schooling at home I use a running armband. I also use this when it's very hot with a hi vis tshirt out hacking.

My riding tights have been a game changer for me with their huge pockets! It's much more comfortable having it on your oeg as opposed to near your hip with other pockets. Otherwise it's just in my normal jodhpur pockets which aren't that big with how big phones are nowadays!

I put mine either in a bum bag or my hi-viz waistcoat pockets which have zips. However my phone has bounced out a couple of times when I’ve not zipped up properly. Luckily spotted by my riding companion at the time as I didn’t notice. Now I’m more careful. It’s in a leather case so was ok.

Bum bag if no zipped pockets. May I add a note of caution to those who pop phones in bras. I carried my phone in a gilet pocket over my left boob for years…pre cancerous cell changes were found in that breast and were sucked out during a biopsy. No proof of course but consultant and nurses made notes that it’s possible that carrying my phone there contributed to the changes.

I put it in my sock inside the boot and it doesn’t move but it’s easy to grab if needed. Other than that I often intend to use a running armband but I usually forget!
