Does anyone have any ideas? Aside from buying a whole new wardrobe (e.g. leggings with big pockets, fleeces with pockets etc) how can i carry my phone whilst riding?

I have a reflective tabard with caution horse on the back and a phone size pocket on the front so it goes in there ?

Bum bag is OK until you land on it. Bad for your phone, worse for you. A pouch strapped to your arm or better still use a saddle bag if you are out hacking, that way you can take a first aid kit as well

My daughter had a total phone fail while we were out for a hack recently. Phone was in her pocket, locked and on silent. We'd just got back to the yard when OH rang me and asked if we were ok as the police had turned up at home. Apparently twice during the ride the phone had dialled 999 even though it was locked and because it was on silent she didn't hear it when they rang her back because she hadn't spoken. They detected that the phone wasn't at the home address but turned up there to see what was going on. All this and we had no idea that it was happening.

I have a hi viz arm phone holder which I actually use on my leg. Annoyingly I can’t remember where I got it from to show you!

I've got a very thin lightweight gilet that i wear on all but the very hottest days. However i now purposely make sure any new summer jods i buy have phone pockets.

Saddle bags are a bad move for your phone... if you come off and the horse buggers off you are left with nothing ???

It’s not a lot of use having your phone in a saddle bag if your horse bogs off or you can’t move or stand to get it out of the saddle bag. I use a bum bag and yes there is a small risk of it breaking or causing you additional injury. No guarantee it won’t break or cause injury if attached to your arm or in a pocket either.

I had a bad fall and now I won't ride without my phone, even in the school - the yard is 25m away but if it's windy, rainy or noisy on the yard any cries for help would be easily missed. I replaced all my jods with ones with thigh phone pockets.

I tried that once and then cantered across a field in a 2 point seat while my phone slowly slid down the inside of my thigh arriving at my knee.
