Bum bag is OK until you land on it. Bad for your phone, worse for you. A pouch strapped to your arm or better still use a saddle bag if you are out hacking, that way you can take a first aid kit as well
If you fall off your phone goes with the horse and you can't use it-not much use for the most likely emergency you need to use it in.

I have a Horse Holster (https://thehorseholster.com/) which I had shipped from the US and it is an excellent purchase. It is roomy enough for my sizeable iPhone and straps to the thigh very securely, with an additional (removable) strap to clip to a belt loop for added security. I have worn it cross country jumping and on various hacks and it has never budged and is water repellant. I find it surprisingly comfortable too and I feel better having something there than around my waist.

A very fetching bumbag! Most of the year I ride with body warmer etc with pockets so it’s only the summer I wear a bumbag when I have a T-shirt on.

Mine goes in my boot, but I’ll be investing in a bum bag for winter because I hate having stuff in my pockets, especially when it’s wet!

I bought a hi-vis reflective photographers vest which goes over the top of whatever I'm wearing and has loads of useful pockets

20yrs ago when I first had a phone I rode with it clipped onto my belt (old Nokia brick, no way it would fit in my pocket!). I stopped doing this after falling and landing on it, the (very robust) phone broke and caused deep cuts as well as muscle damage (due to the size of it)- the only injuries from the fall were those caused by the phone, and I wasn't even able to use the phone to call for help. Since then I have ridden with it (well, a much newer one obvs) in a pouch attached to the saddle.

A few weeks ago I learnt that this might not be the best idea: I boxed my exceptionally well-behaved horse out to hack on local moorland and we parted company, leaving me temporarily without a phone. Embarrassingly I didn't fall off, but made the sort of error I would have got into a lot of trouble for as a teenager - as my horse is so well behaved I don't always hold onto him at home (he responds to the 'stay' command, like a dog), and whilst I was locking up the box I temporarily let go without thinking, and he decided to set off at a steady trot to check out some local campers in the nearby wood. I had visions of chasing him round the moor all night (without a phone to call for help), but fortunately he only went about 30yds and then stood waiting for me. So I learnt that a) I am an idiot and need to remember that he is a horse and may behave unpredictably, and b) that I shouldn't have the phone attached to the horse... and c) that you are never too old to not admit to your parents when you do something stupid :p

I now have my phone in a pocket in the front of my high-vis tabbard, as I figure I'm unlikely to land chest-first (at least I hope I won't). I am still wary of having one around my waist/hips or shoulders as they tend to be the bits of me that in the past have hit the ground first (or I am bent forwards at the waist so having a phone at the front of my belt/waistband would mean it would dig in). Of course, the best plan would be not to fall off or part company with the horse, but I have now learnt that I can't guarantee that either of those things won't happen!

When I am in the school, I tend to leave my phone in my bag in the tack room or I put it on the gatepost of the school (if I am on my own). Neither place will help me if I need it, so I wouldn't follow my example!

For hacking, I really like V-Bandz tabards https://www.v-bandz.co.uk/ . They do them with a sturdy zipped pocket, which is really handy. I am saving up to buy one of their Trekking waistcoats which has about five pockets!

Please god not your bra! It is so dangerous. A livery on our yard hit the deck with her phone in her bra and it bruised her really badly.

Mine goes in the waistband of my riding tights. I really should get a bum bag or something though! It's fine in winter when I wear my big coat, it's just when I'm in a t shirt or jumper that I have an issue.

More musings about phones and the lack of large pockets on jods...

I could probably leave my phone at the yard tbf, I’ve got an Apple Watch with its own SIM card so I can make calls directly from the watch. It’s also got fall detection and calls your emergency contact after a set time if you don’t respond to the fall detection alert. Unfortunately whenever my horse spooks, and she does those killer spooks where they drop about 6ft and strike out to one side, it sets the watch off and a few times I’ve noticed. Cue a very worried OH tracking us down via GPS thinking I’m concussed or worse

That sounds a great idea for a rider, even if at times it activates when not needed

Decathlon have jods with phone pockets. Not tried mine out on horseback yet but my phone fits so that's a good start! Although I have to take the phone cover off because it's too bulky to fit in the pocket. The only bum bag I have looks like a disco ball so not sure if that's a bit 'much'. :D

I put mine in a cotton pouch which I made and it goes in the front of my jods. I just tuck it in with the top hanging outside of waist band. I also have dog tags on bridle and saddle with hubbys telephone number and yard address on them.

I have a 'money belt which is actually and over shoulder bag, I wear it under my air jacket. Only trouble is it does bounce around a bit when doing sitting trot. Lately I have got an arm holster which I strap to my leg, that seems to work quite well, but I am not convinced I would notice if it fell off.
