We took Fred off raw last year as traveling in France for three months and didn't have enough freezer space, I weaned him onto James wellbeloved as our last spaniel did really well on that, he currently has the pouches morning and evening with a separate kibble bowl kept full for picking at, however the local Jolleyes I use seems to be struggling with supplies and when I've tried online and they don't have the large boxes available for delivery despite being on their website I also noticed when in pets at home this week that their pouches are only 90g, I'm currently feeding 150g pouches, so assume this is another shrink-flation I'm now thinking of trying something else, when in France I fed natures variety, which he loved, but over here it is rather expensive, so just wondering if anyone had any recommendations of an alternative

Fred is an eleven year old sprocker ex gun dog, mad as cheese and walked for 10 to 15 miles every day with energy for much much more - yesterday he was running up and down the banks of the Wensum chasing swallows for two hours

Cavom Compleet. Before that, Markus Muhle NaturNah. I'm a covert to cold-pressed. Zooplus do a good deal on the latter, which is a good price for the ingredients.

Mostly Lily's kitchen with Royal Canin x-small puppy kibble.
Sometimes swap in Cesar if tight for time as it gets shovelled in.

She prefers to try and snaffle the cats Felix if possible, getting ears boxed is now down to a once weekly event..... good cat! 🤣

This for a 5kg 8 month Shi tho, rather more small than yours OP!

Must try M.Wolfheart again, but she wasnt keen. This breed are notorious fussy eaters and we were doing well on most things till about a month ago.
TFF, will not be trained by something small!

Millies Wolfheart here too. We've just swapped mixes to a slightly more expensive one but previous were feeding one of their cheapest mixes. Dog is doing better on this one and we can feed a little less of it.

MW have quite a lote of variety of flavours and mixes, some high fat/protein and others low so I think there's a good range to dial up/down based on what the dog needs. Worth contacting them to help narrow it down.

Millies Wolfheart for my 2 here, have had no digestion problems and they were very helpful when I was querying what would be the best recipes to feed.

James Wellbelloved Grain Free Adult

Old boy has to have grain free as it can be a trigger for his CECS/Spikes Disease/atypical epilepsy.

It also has to be something that Amazon deliver because I’m lazy!

Fish4Dogs. There's one with sensitive skin and one with sensitive stomach here and this seems to work for both of them.

Giggles quietly - having asked opinions about this very recently, I think it was @planete who asked me why I was taking my two off Skinners Duck and Rice - on reflection I couldn’t disagree, so I got them another sack of it 🤦‍♀️

They have Butchers Tripe on top as an appetiser, they both tend to be fat (Jack Russell terriers) so Skinners is great for them

We fed it for years and t years, tbh I expect it’s more that they’re used to the Essentials so go downhill when they’re taken off it, and also we probably feed the same amount whereas they could do with more. They all look like hat racks at the moment!

Yes I couldn’t keep the greyhounds and lurchers on it for the same reason - they would drop condition so badly - I think that’s why I feel guilty for feeding it! But the JRTs are so different, it’s fine for them. I suppose it’s finding the right food to suit your particular dogs 😊

Raw complete: Naked Dog and Prodog Raw.

One thing is for sure, I won't be feeding Zenoo. I'd need a lottery win not a pension.

Lifestage from Jolleyes Pet stores. We feed the kibble mixed with a bit of the tray food.

How does that compare to other dog foods? I’m curious because that’s my local pet store, I went in there last weekend and their Lifestage was everywhere! I didn’t look a pricing or nutrition I have to admit

I have to feed so much if I feed cheaper stuff like Skinners and then have to deal with so much poo.
I feed Essentials as well, as you know, if you buy by the pallet you get food discounts but I thought for OP’s spaniel she might take a while to feed it all. 🤣.
I still think MWH is better, but Essentials works out cheaper.

We always fed Wainrights or Arden Grange, but now older one is getting fussy and his tummy protests a lot, so we went for a look round P@H and ended up with Lilys kitchen kibble, the woodland walk one I think. Old dog has kibble soaked til soft with the same brand wet food mixed in. Its expensive but he eats it and looks and poos well so hes worth it 😍
Young dog eats anything so he's happy too

Very active working collies plus varied breed rescues.

Used to feed Skinners years ago until I found a whole bourbon biscuit in it & presumed it was cheap because of containing bakery waste.(?)
Went onto dearer stuff & pleased with the results- shiny coats and less poo!

Mostly James Wellbeloved kibble in various flavours. Also some tinned Chappie as a treat now and then or if we're going out for the day & I need to be sure they eat up before we leave. (Vet told me to avoid dried Chappie as it isn't the wet stuff that's been dehydrated but a completely different recipe that's not as good.)
I get a regular monthly order of the dried JWB & find them very reliable.

Edited - @HopOnTrot For delivery of 15Kg bags to where I am, it's a lot cheaper direct from JWB than from Amazon if I sign up for a regular order. - might be worth checking.

It rates highly on that website comparing dog foods. We previously used Acana kibble who have now been taken over by Mars, as has Orijens. My friend who owns a pet store warned about this so we looked for an alternative. We are really pleased with Lifestage as it has completely settled our dog’s sensitive tummy.

My three terriers did really well for several years on Arden Grange Chiicken and Rice with a little Butchers cereal free wet food then suddenly all three stopped eating it. We tried several other kibbles and none were a succes, the two that would normally eat anything weren't happy at all. A couple of friends use Butternet Box and in desperation we tried it. The two who usally eat anything love it, at dinner time they get really excited in anticipation, the third who has always been picky seems much happier too, sometimes he will not eat initially but if offered it again an hour or two later usually finishes it all. The downside is the cost, it's over £30 a week and we had to but a small freezer to store it in. However, happy dogs = happy owners!
