So I am interested in what other horsey magazines you all read other than Horse and hound? also what forums are you all members of?
I have just subscribed to Horse and Rider as it has a few good exercises each month to give me inspiration for my teaching (i am a BHSAI) and 30yo, so I find it stange that when setting up the subscription the peson on the other end of the phone assumed it was for a child/ young person??
So are the other publications aimed at young people/ children and horse and hound at us older generations??
Just interested in your thoughts.....

We have H&H every so often but rarely take the othetr magasines. We stopped having the mags years ago because they kept re hashing the same schooling exercises & keep having similar articles all the time. It felt like we'd read the book before. :(

I have horse and hound on sub. But have had to stop it due to costs!!! So will buy as and when I can in future, I take your horse on sub. Cos I got a lovely gift when I signed up!!!

I us to Subscribe to three of the other 'top' horse magazines but cancelled them when my income dropped, and I found them too 'samey' and you knew what was coming each season. I now don't buy any magazine as I think at almost £4 or more each they are not really worth paying for anymore. I wish I could justify buying them. If anybody wants to let me have them second hand, I would be grateful, but I don't know of anyone local who would do this.
I will on rare occasions purchase one if there is a particularly interesting topic inside.

I'm not a member of any other horse forum. I buy Horse, Your Horse and Horse&Rider at various times, depending on what is in them. They are expensive, but actually pretty comparable, or cheaper than magazines about other topics (OH is into classic cars and those publications are usually a bit dearer than horse ones).

I pass them on to my mum's friend's 17 year old daughter when I have read them. (I'm nearly 28 btw, so not 'young' either OP)

Interesting, I too have also thought they are to expensive and Horse and Rider was better cost wise than HandH as its once a month not weekly and i dont have time to read it weekly anyway. Its interesting to hear I am not on anyother forums but have been a lurker her for yonks. I am happy to pass on old mags if anyone is in dorset ...?

No magazines. Used to get various ones, but they all turned into the more or less same magazine with the same content on a loop. Stopped being worth the money and they got too expensive.
I pick up those free ones from tack shops now and again but I often don't even get around to reading them.

I use Phoenixhorse barefoot forum where I find the advice first class. No offence HH, I love your forum to chat with other horsey people. Many of the threads are so entertaining.

I'm a Parelli member, so get the Savvy Times as part of my package.

I tend to get H&H weekly too & YH or Horse Magazine if a particular article interests me. Oh, I get Native Pony magazine too.

Oh the parelli one reminded me, I'm a BHS member so get their magazine through the post as well. I never read that either, straight in the bin :o

I get the BD Magazine with my membership, will occasionally buy Your Horse/Horse and Rider but agree you see a lot of the same stuff over and over. Horse and Hound is nice but not enough pictures for me, and I don't really find comp reports that interesting.

I'm on this forum and also UltimateDressage, though it's not quite so active :)

Quarter Horse, Paint Horse, Arabian, Paso Fino all those come as part of Breed Society membership, I don't buy magazines at all, of any sort.

Forums? On and off, a dozen or so, but most are North American and either farming or breed, or sport, specific.

H&H occasionally. Used to get it every week, but it went the way of all the 'red top' mags and, to me, lost its uniqueness. Now I only get it if I'm bored/traveling/want to read a specific article.

Various others such as Your Horse, because I was given subscriptions as presents. Get a bit bored of the '[Issue]? We'll Fix It in Five Easy Steps!' approach, but they usually have something of interest in them :)

I go look at e-venting (and dream that one day I'll have something sensible to say on there lol), Trot Online (though I do get a bit lost as there's so many sections). Mainly I go on Talking of Horses (for the same reasons as 3Beasties :D). Just dipped a toe into Chronicle of the Horse (think that's the right title), which I think is the USA equivalent of here? Also actually go on FB! Me! The technophobe lol. Usually just dip in and out of here now. Like to keep up with some of the posters as there's some very knowledgeable and some very nice people on here :D Some of them are even both lol :D

I don't really that many magazines any more ether, used to buy them all, but know they are just too expensive, I only really pick one up if there is something of interest but as one of the others said, its generally an updated article anyways

i used to buy horsey mags regularly 10/15 years ago...
times has changed. now i can not only talk to other forum members like here, but also watch videos on youtube, etc...
personally, i still like the printed media but i dont know if there is a long-term future...
but this is just me...
:)

I don't subscribe to any mags but I will often pick up H&H for the results and occasional I will pick up a couple of the other mags such as H&R if there is an interesting article.

Forums, I only come on here and Red Rosette.

Get H & H on subscription. Have like another poster read it more or less every week since whenever. My house move before last I finally had to throw out the H & Hs from the late 1960s. Would have loved to have kept them but no room.

Occasionally buy one of the other mags if something really useful in it or people tend to leave them at the yard after they have read them. Get Showing World magazine as member of various showing societies.

Go on Horse Gossip sometimes if after something showing connected.

Will look at the local horse mags but would only buy if in one of them!! Used to subscribe to Chiltern and Thames Rider but didn't like their attitude when I rang up because hadn't received a copy, so stopped getting that.

Magazines I buy VERY rarely. Buy H & H if I'm on a long journey, maybe. I do get British Horse as part of the BHS membership, but it's very much an 'all hail Martin Clunes' publication.

This is the only horse forum I frequent. I used to go on IHDG, but rarely look in, now. It's all the same old and I find this more dynamic/mixed.

I used to have Horse and rider, Your Horse and Horse magazines on subscription!
This total over kill came about because I wanted a free turn out rug with Horse and Rider, the other two I got with Tesco Club card vouchers so good as free in my opinion!
Now they have run out ive not paid to replace them as I found I wasn't actually reading them, maybe a few pages if that.
I also found that all the schooling exercises and competing advice wasn't relevant to me and my fat retired horses.
I quite like "Horse" and still very occasionally buy it.

Im on Horse Gossip and here :) and I get horse and hound every thursday on subscription because I love the showing section and also I did use to subsribe to to Horse and Rider but only looked at the photos haha
