This is a very boring post, I know. I will be insuring baby horse when she becomes mine on March 4th. Any recommendations re: insurance companies? Anyone to avoid? I had G insured with NFU until she was too old for coverage. They seemed fine, but never had a claim.

I had my grey insured with Pet Plan when she was young. She had a horse V fence accident and they paid without issue. Was a few years ago though.

NFU have been horrendous for my mum's ongoing claim/s - previously they'd always been very good.
Scottish Equestrian are good, same company as Petplan Equine but usually cheaper.

Petplan are good but expensive and they complained about the value of my horse (despite no LOU) and doubled it, citing the current horse market. This doubled my yearly premium.

I’ve been with Petplan and NFU and both were good about paying out. NFU is a bit erratic as they change their minds a lot about taking on new customers. I found PP premiums just got too high. I’m with Carriage House now as a friend had good dealings with them but I haven’t made any claims yet myself ??.

I've had many claims with KBIS and found them very easy to deal with. not the cheapest and they like an exclusion as much as the next person but I've been happy with the service when it counts.

I got my foal insured via a broker though as KBIS wouldn't offer full cover until she was 3 months old.

I guess they all like an exclusion as much as each other? I had Gypsum with Carriage House for a couple years, when we first moved here, but their premiums went waaaaaaaaay up after she turned 16, so I changed to NFU. I had one claim with Carriage House, the result of an altercation with a fence. The wound healed and the horse was totally fine, but that left hock was excluded from any cover following aforesaid fence incident.

I had PP with my oldie for about 12 years until he was about 20-21yrs. I got my money’s worth with two big claims in that time. I was amazed that despite all the exclusions they put on after the first one which was SI strain which excluded back and practically everything connected to the back that they paid out on the subsequent one which was a annular ligament op. I can’t fault them on that. I stopped insuring after that as I wouldn’t be putting him through anything major after that and the premiums were nearly £100 a month. I have a credit card if needed. NFU paid out on a previous horse including LOU with no real issues. When insuring my newer horse I found all the premiums were really high. Carriage House came out at about £60 a month over 10/11 months.

My friend had to claim several times with NFU and they were very good about it. Pet Plan have also been good about claims in my experience but they are expensive.

Nfu were good until premiums went up far too high. Now with Scottish equestrian. They paid of quickly forn2 claims. I now have a 3rd at the same time and they are getting a little difficult. They are now saying they hadn’t got a claim form which is untrue as they have given me a claim ref no abs asked if that claim is related to the last one. They have also added an exclusion to lameness in back legs. Queried it and they said they needed a diagnosis of the lameness. They have already had that and paid out for the treatment for it.
