Was reading this weeks H&H and noticed how nice Flint Curtis looks in that bridle.

Which types of noseband do you think go well with which horse types/face shapes

Just out of interest

I think it depends more on what the noseband is doing and whether it is suitable for the horse! But generally finer bridles and nosebands suit horses with smaller and finer heads, cobby horses suit wider nosebands.

You are probably about to get lots of posts saying nosebands are not fashion accessories etc

My cob looks fab in a flat cavesson but then he doesn't need anything else on.

my mums doesn't look great in a drop noseband but it is what works best.

i like the 2inch flat hunter/cob cavasson on large headed horses spes with a big white blaze.

thin grackles on big cheecked horses.

large padded crank on warmblood for dressage

Rolled on pretty SJ stallions

my 1/2inch DR bridle on my Arab and PBA

oohh and drops on short faced horses - gives them a bit of length for in the dressage ring.

i think most TB types look nice in grackles, and flat, plain nosebands for more roman noses... I'd have liked to have had a flat noseband on P, but they didnt have one in in his size with a flash thing in the shop

but i don't really think any horse in an unnessecary noseband for aesthetic reasons is good!

ID/cob/heavy horses look nice in wide cavesson nosebands. TB types look nice in fine cavessons or flashes. Long faces look good in grackles, but obviously there needs to be a reason for using it unless its a cavesson which never did no harm to anything did it?

I've just realised the heading made it sound like I was referring to a noseband as a fashion accessory. But that's not what I meant lol!

Obviously I realise nosebands aren't just there for aesthetics etc..

I meant thickness, padding, stitching, decoration if you know what I mean

Not the type/style of noseband.

Like some people have said, thicker leather for heavier horses etc

I usually like fairly plain bridles, but if a horse has a plain head, I think white piping on a noseband can really 'lift' the horse's appearance in the same way that a bit of bling on the browband can do.

I'm a bit traditional, I like my Welsh Cob in a flat hunter nose band, but at the moment he has a padded crank noseband though I don't use a flash strap, and I must say I think he looks quite smart in it for dressage!

But if you need a certain piece of kit, then you choose something which you know will suit and does the same job/ is comfy, over something which doesn't do them any favours. Star wears a noseband and it's flat and 2"wide because raised and stitched would look a bit odd on her
You wouldn't choose a hideous pair of shoes for yourself if you had the option of something which did the same job but were gorgeous...... Or am I wrong?
