My mare (Granny) is a 15.3hh By Grannex (WB grade A sj), out of a 15.2hh tbxid mare of unknown breeding. Granny has evented upto nov/int and cci1*, and will hopefully go cci2** nxt season, but i'm sure this will be her limit. Her positives are shes very bold and an honest acurate jumper, and moves well.Shes compact and well put together. But she lacks a bit of scope SJ and struggles with xc times above novice as shes only got a bit of T.B in her. So i'm looking for a stallion that could improve this on her (i don't ask for much!) and suggestions??!!

What about Jaguar Mail- Headley Britannia has been put in foal to him.
He's nearly pure TB and he is a grand prix showjumper, they think he will make the Olympics. So he would give you the TB blood and the scope!
Only thing is his confo looks very iffy in his picture but Ive seen videos of him and he looks fine so mightve just been a bad picture that they are using of him. Anyway if your mare has v. good confo it might be ok.

I'd use my fella cause he's got Cor de la bryere who is and who's stock are scopey and he's got lots of tb inc Dallas on the dams side. Not that I'm biased! lol :P

Jaguar Mail does sound ideal and his type would certainly complement your mare.

Thats what kind of thing I'd look for (a wb with lots of tb in but also some scopey jumpers) unless there's a scopey Tb out there.

Jaguar mail is definatley my fav option at the mo,does he stand in this country or by A.I? Any idea how much he is? I think a WB with plenty of Tb in it is just the type for my mare. Whats your boy called Navalgem? Also has anyone got any info on an ISH stallion called Highscope? Think he competed at the Atlanta Olympics(eventing) ???

i found this on another web site

Highscope was a great eventing stallion, he went to the last Olympics. Sadly he also died while eventing but he is still available via AI. He's Irish bred but not ID x TB, I think he is by Touchstone? Nice horse anyway.

Highscope has apparently not got any or many good offspring at all, thats just a rumour I heard so dont quote me on that!!

Jaguar Mail s fee is 1600 euros so about £1000 I think? Eeek!! he stands in france so would have to be by AI.

oh sh*t did'nt think he'd be that much!! Any nice selle francais stallions anyone can recommend?

High Tension. up and coming stallion stud fee £600
http://www.groomsbridgestud.co.uk/

He is a full TB and extremely athletic..Ive got a 4 year old by him( his first foal) and she has a superb scopey jump and really tucks up beautifully. Loads of stamina and go too which she should have considering that High Tension is by saddlers wells and has sired lots of top steeplechasers/hurdlers.

He also has Fappiano in his pedigree who was the top event sire in the US, and Mr Prospector has sired international showjumpers as well..

P.s my mare is the bay foal with the white face on the 'progeny' page! Isnt she gorgeous?!

Everyone willbe sick of me saying this now but if you look at Brendons stud in Pyecombe (see Navalgem's link above) have a look at El Thuder. He is only 3 at mo but by the time your mare is ready to be put in foal he will have some stock on the ground and be proven a bit. Is from Argentinus (Arko's sire), Nimmerdor, Ladgraf, Ladykiller bloodlines. Is of a lighter and quality stamp himself so would cross well to produce eventers I think as got the jumping and dressage pedigree.
I've got two mare's in foal to him for next year (both are very different types from one another) so will be interesting to see what he throws. I believe he's had a very busy season so will be quite a few by him around next year.
I also agree that Caretino Glory is fab. His stock seem to be doing well in YEH and eventing classes so far. My only criticism is that some of his foals do tend to be quite sharp and the guys at Brendons say that his foals need to be well handled to prevent this so I would make sure the mare has a nice temperament.

I think take it to the limit is very nice, however having seen him in the flesh he is a very heavy big boy!!

Doubt wether he is going to have the speed to make the time beyond two star level....

Why don't you go for a TB? As your mare only has a little TB in her, if you want to breed an event horse ideally the foal needs to be at least 1/2 to 3/4 TB. Jaguar mail is proving to be popular, however he is over 17hh and with Grannex blood in there you could end up with a big horse.

Will the new event horse need so much TB? I think the emphasise is going to be on dressage & keeping clear SJ'g. With the format cut short now I dont think a horse with so much TB is required. I think most WB's are going to cope with the XC phase which is why the dressage & SJ'g is going to play an even bigger part.

You will still need a fair proportion as there are still the same number of jumping efforts on the XC. If you want to use a warm blood, there are plenty of stallions that are 1/2 TB.

I think if this mare's main problem is that she's struggling to make the XC times then she really needs a stallion with as much TB as possible for speed, although ideally one throwing good jumpers as well!

A bit of size would probably help too, as she's only 15.3.

Why TB why not Arab? Arabs can produce very good PB SJ's & have the stamina needed. A lot of Trakehners have a fair bit of Arab. The French bred AA Inshallah was very sucessful at producing SJ's as have others. If the mare has substance it could well be a good match.

Hey - if she were mine I would breed her to my Arab (pure-bred) like a shot...and hope for another Tamarillo! We have had two nice TB and TBx eventers to my boy this year, and a super WB...

But for size, scope and speed for higher-level eventing, even I have to admit that a TB would probably be better in this case - or maybe an Anglo-Arab such as the eventing stallion All That Jazz at Biddesden - very nice horse!

I would have thought that with the new short format stamina would be rather less of an issue, though?

Major League would give you the blood, scope and movement, his are excelling in competition and has youngsters in many of the top 50 event rider's yards he would also add some height to your mare. I have a 4 year old of his out of my TB mare and at her second ever show someone offered me an obscene amount of money for her but she is not for sale!! I am going back for seconds.

It all depends what level you want to event at but higher up stamina is actually becoming more of an issue due to the courses becoming more technical with more jumping efforts. Its the combinations and related distances that sap the strength of the horses and the good Tb jumpers still jump across country with less effort. But the warmblood lines are catching up. (Often by nicking our own TB lines to put speed and stamina into their competition lines.
As to what to put you mare to I would say aTB or near to TB would give a good competition horse. Plenty of thoroughbreds can move and trained correctly can do dressage and warmbloods can be hot and tense it is training that is an underated ingredient.

Echo htobago, All That Jazz has looks to die for! If my mare wasn't so fine I think I'd pack her off to him.

Does anyone know if All That Jazz is related to their other stallion Grafik? (Sorry to hi-jack slightly..

Thats a shame about all that jazz being so fine, I had heard lots about him and was considering using him too ( even tho Ive not seen him yet!!) But a fine horse is out of the question for me- need something nice and stocky !!
