What trailer to buy?
Today is my birthday and mr taxman has given me a nice rebate (great birthday present), so going to upgrade from the old rice to something a little more upmarket. I have a 16hh tb mare and a 15.2 Appaloosa, although unless I move yards will only travel one at a time. No idea what to get though. Appy loads and travels very well, tb is a reluctant loader but travels perfectly when she finally goes on. So, can you help decide? Read though recent similar post,but so many replies it is difficult to workout general consensus - so I have done a little poll
 
I can't see the poll ?!
I went to a Hampshire fire & rescue talk recently and apparently ifor Williams have less incident rates than other trailers :)

As the number of Ifors on the road probably outnumber the others by 10:1 a poll is always going to put them on top. People who don't like Ifors have good reason as they have usually done a lot of research about ride/suspension/floor etc. Four or five years ago I wouldn't buy one but I have no knowledge or experience of the latest models. I have a Wessex Clubman and I'm very pleased with it. Bateson was another make on my wish-list but nothing around secondhand when I was looking. All makes are going to do the job so it's usually personal preference and availability if you are not buying new, which often means Ifors as they are so common.
 
I would say an equitrek. I have an awkward loader and he loads very easily into my friends equitrek and he travels fantastic in it, he is still awkward to load into other trailers though.

I will buy another single horse trailer - either an ifor 401 or 403 or cheval liberte Gold one Pullman v2. I want to tow on a b licence and will get either a Kia sportage or Toyota rav4. But other than that, I am unsure what combination to go for. Have just been looking at kias and there seem to be 2 different kerb weights and towing capacities. Haven't looked at toyotas yet. I know I'll probably need to get the trailers down plated. My horse weighs about 500kg

And why do they outnumber other trailers by 10:1? :cool:

There is a reason that there are more Ifors than other trailers around and it's not because their owners haven't done any research! :rolleyes:

Mine (numerous different horses) have always travelled super in our 510 and it has done 15,000+ miles with us on windy country roads and up and down the motorway.
So easy to maintain as well and the internal dimensions are very large compared to most other trailers in the same price range.

As am I ROG! No idea if I should go with the small car and trailer or just sit B+E and get a bigger one - Keep changing my mind. Since my OH will mainly be with me, I can tow with L plates on anyway as he sat his test in the dark ages! Nearest cheval liberte dealer is about 100 miles away, so slightly put off by availability of these and it is so much easier to get a double trailer as there are always second hand ones. Whatever I decide, the rice is going as it is too small for my mare.

It was mentioning ONE horse in one post and the TWO horses in another post which confused me

TWO horses would deffo mean towing under B+E rules
 
I have a Bateson Deauville and I'm really pleased with it. Lovely and lightweight, light inside with plenty of headroom. I did my research and was put off the Ifor.

I do own 2, but I would never be taking both out at once - one of them isnt even backed yet! I'd only ever need to travel both if moving yards (which I don't plan to do) and then could happily take 1 at a time. Still don't knw what option to go with though. The availability of double trailers I swaying me...
