I usually buy the 85% MgO because it is cheap, but my mare, who is the one who needs supplementation most, doesn't like it. I wonder if the purer stuff has less of a taste? Have also read about other forms of Mg - magnesium chloride and magnesium citrate, which are apparently more bioavailable. The only place I can find MgCl is Taycrest, and I assume they only supply in bulk. Has anyone tried this form? I can only find magnesium citrate for human use, not in large enough quantities to feed to horses.
Any thoughts anyone?

mag ox is turned to mag chloride in the stomach . dont know anything about mag citrate sorry . my pony wont eat his feed with the mag ox in if its too wet or if theres too much ,how much are you giving? could you split it between more meals? just googled mag citrate and its actually mag ox with citrates added to produce a laxative for prparing the bowel for surgery so doesnt sound suitable to me

99% MgO is usually more palatable - it's a much finer powder, so lacks the gritty texture that some horses dislike.

Thanks for these. Just realised my title should have been 'tastes'.
I did some calculations, and feeding the Nupafeed MAH at the recommended dose would actually be cheaper than feeding 15g of any of the other Mg supplements, if the 5L pricing is used. Has anyone had palatability issues with MAH?
