I'm just rehabbing a wonderful dressage horse with kissing spines, and I have a middleweight who I drag hunt who will jump anything. I've always gone for horses with 'that' glint in their eye, but I know in my heart of hearts I can't manage another big, fine, sharp one at my age.

What should I buy next to keep me going into my old age, and what should I do with it?

Driving is out because my roads are too hilly and have a lot of blind bends and are mostly single track.

Fun suggestions please :)

Buy an Irish draught .

This, and become one of those wonderful, fog-horn voiced women that carry on hunting into their eighties, flying hedges and sipping from the hipflask at the same time! It's the only way to go!

Or

Get into natives and dress head to toe in tweeds, and become on of those wonderful fog-horn voiced women that carry on showing well into their hundreds!

All tic you understand ;)

Re home one from WHW , then if your circumstances change you can take him back and be re assured he won't ever end up in a bad place.
Greatwood and other places do TB re-hab ex racers, these might do you too, they can be quite adaptable, and you can compete at any level, which is great.

Which native breed do you think? I've got a good start on the foghorn voice :)

Got a shirexID, GS and had IDXs before. Would a full draft be so different? I really like to experience new things.

A nice Irish draught can do any job they are characters sharp but not in quite the same way as a warmblood .
They would do your drag hunting they would do a bit dressage show jump.
They IME are the nicest draughts to ride having been developed to be multipurpose

New things but not driving mmmmm how about long distance riding for pleasure not competiton .

Rehoming isn't a bad idea. I guess I'd really owe them and it a home for life as long as I was still here and still healthy. I'm not sure how I'd feel about that ....

The thing is, you don't know exactly when things will change: three years ago I woke up one morning unable to walk and in agony, fortunately it was summer and horse was mostly outside, but it was all a bit of a nightmare, and the NH seemed to think two paracetemol and a pair of crutches would sort me, what was I complaining about?
Suddenly I was unable to look after My Boy, unable to work and disabled 10% of the time, not predictable when it would happen .............. three years down the line and I have still no idea if it has healed 100%, probably not.........
If I'd been able to predict that scenario, I would have taken a WHW horse as I know they would never let me down.

Arab. Speedy little things, not too big you can't climb back on when you've fallen off. Always a bonus. Mines crap at jumping though...he can't see the point.

Or a highland.....mines a fun little thing, loves jumping.....gonna buy me a headscarf and pretend to be the Queen :)

You could deliberately buy one that is absolutely awful, from the worst seller you can find, and then offer clinics for first time buyers to come and learn about what can go horribly wrong when buying a horse?

Public service :D

Highland ponies!!!! Such fab characters - can be cheeky and stubborn but tend to be steadier and less sharp/spooky. Will do sj, eventing, dr, whp, showing, endurance, driving... Had some of my best time with highland ponies, and miss how much fun they are - love my exracer but will defo be getting another highland in the future :)

ooh! ooh! ooh! Get an American Bashkir Curly. I have a 2 1/2 YO who is just adorable. All cuddly and chunky and cuuuuuuurlly! :) also v intelligent, love people, and it would really mark you out as the mad eccentric lady! (Well I use it as my excuse anyway). :)
