Which way next - iideas please

I'm soon to be 53 (ssshhh) I will end my days with my Bobs, Irish conne, do anything go anywhere and worth his weight in Guinness!!

Friend has a fabulous over height dun Connie that I m very jealous of. I like the idea of Icelandic, Bashkir and western appeals too. But I'm quite tall and I do feel better on bigger horses. And I do like to do things that are a bit unusual :) what do you think of affiliated dressage on full Clydesdale?

ooh! ooh! ooh! Get an American Bashkir Curly. I have a 2 1/2 YO who is just adorable. All cuddly and chunky and cuuuuuuurlly! :) also v intelligent, love people, and it would really mark you out as the mad eccentric lady! (Well I use it as my excuse anyway). :)

Where did you get it?????

You will have to search hard for one with good hocks or it won't last long once it starts having to bear wieght behind .
They like them with cow hocks .

True, I reckon novice or maybe elementary would be the limit but I'd just love to see the faces of the point-hunting matchy matchy made up to within an inch of their lives people when they saw it. They really move well, some of them :)

Do they have a horn in the middle of their foreheads?

Yes and rainbow manes and tails. :)

Seriously though, a shorter horse that's sane and sensible but still has a spark about it, would probably be ideal. If it takes up your leg, then your height wont matter. A quality sec D maybe?

It was Ted made me think of a heavy, AA :)

I bought a cob after my nice horse broke down. She is ID x Clyde, bit agricultural but so easy, well she benefited from a smack and became easy. I think I would have given up this year, had it not been for her letting me ride her when I was so ill.

My husband has a lovely ID - I knew nothing about them before but wouldn't hesitate to get another. He's not the sharpest pencil in the box by a looooong way and I sometimes wonder if there is anything going on in his head at all! However he is kind, brave and willing! Husband rides him literally just on Sunday's, on the buckle, past things a lot of horses would totally freak at without so much as glancing sideways. He's big (over 17hh) but a lamb to handle, if a bit dopey at times. He took him safely round his first hunter trial earlier this year and is capable of doing very well, but equally happy with his weekly plod round the block. He's just a giant pony really :D

That's a lovely story and picture KM :)

I have had an Arab, someone earlier suggested one, and they do feel every small. I've toyed with the idea of a section D before Faracat, I love that movement and their bossy cheekiness. Bay with four white legs would do nicely :)

Cptrayes, I know exactly how you feel. My head was telling me I needed a quieter type that I would be able to get on from the ground in 20 years time, so when I lost my beautiful mare, I thought I'd go for a Welsh cob. A good alrounder that wouldn't grow too big but that still was not a plod. I am buying...a two year old WB x TB ...doh!

Or…….Become a 'professional volunteer" at shows and events, fence judging, ring steward, writing, scoring. Foghorn voice comes in handy, nice weekends away, driving events usually give you lunch. No mucking out or farrier/vet bills.

So glad you've got something to look forward to WT :)

I love riding too much, I think :)

How about a rare breed? Cleveland bay, or dressage on a Suffolk Punch - I'd pay to see that!

Have to admit I have been negotiating on a two year old full Clydesdale but I can't get the price right at the moment for a horse who will be pretty much an ornament for a couple of years. I do like her though. She's one of a tiny number of Clydesdale on horsemart if anyone wants to tell me what they think of her?
