I'm looking for opinions on each of these yards. Which would you use? Do you think in terms of what you would be paying is too much or is it worth it?

Yard A - £178pcm which is for stable, field and morning turnout 7 days per week, bringing in is only Mon-Friday . No reduction if you turnout or bring in yourself. Horse have now to be in at 2pm every day. Hay £4.50 per small bale , Shavings £7per bale over and above. Substantial storage area and tack room. Trailer parking. Hacking is around fields or onto back roads via an A road. Outdoor school with a few jumps and poles, prone to surface water after rain. £1 per use if you need lights on. Approximately 15minutes from house on main road.

Yard B - £120pcm which is for stable and field. Turnout and bring in up to yourself or available at £1.50 each. Haylage grown on site at £6.50 per small bale. Hay depends on weather. Shavings £7 per baleover and above. Storage area and tack room. Trailer parking. Hacking through lots of fields and very quiet back roads. Outdoor school with various show jumps and poles. No excess charges, except for use of hot water wash area. Approximately 10minutes from house with an extra 5minutes down farm track .

Not much in it between them but I would be interested in your input. Thank you

B sounds marginally better but as you say not much in it. A puts me off a bit if the school floods.
It would also depend (for me) on how much other liveries were at each yard as I would prefer fewer rather than more.

Hiya!

I would say option two...Mainly because you can choose to bring in yourself and not pay for the service, and for those days you cannot be around, you know you have someone to rely on to bring in and can pay when needed. I also think that 2pm is very early to bring in in my opinion! I also wouldnt be happy to pay to use the arena, if you're like me, and ride every evening after work, you'd be forking out an extra £5 or 7 max if you class weekends. If i had to pay to use in the evening in the winter, i would expect a decent ground to ride on and not flooded!

Thanks for your thoughts guys. I am at yard A just now, however it just seems to be getting more expensive for 'little' things which soon mounts up to a big bill. As someone said, at this time of year, if you wanted to ride after work that would be about £5 extra per week , so an extra £20 on average per month. The bringing in earlier then means extra hay, extra bedding as it would be getting walked in perhaps. Yard A also has more people on it than B. The only thing I'm put off with Yard B is the track , I don't want to knock seven bells out my car :( .

Neither would suit me but marginally I would opt for B

Can you park at end of track and walk the last bit some days (i.e. not when pouring with rain!).
For me, it would also depend on how many were using the school at the times i wanted to and what the hacking itself was like (e.g. fields waterlogged or dry, size of space for a decent ride). Also, what the people were like! Some of the yards round here are really nice, others very b****y.

I agree with whose on the yard! Horsey people can be so horrible! Everyone has their own individual way of doing things, their own riding and horse style, its their hobby, their money, leave them be!

Current yard used to be nice but has since became a bit cliquey due to various reasons, mainly competitive pony clubbers and mums with differences of opinion (I could write a list ), Myself and a few others have the same views, we enjoy our horses and like a good hack and a wee jump in the school for fun . I'm not riding as much just now due to light but really trying to avoid the school too as it is very deep and unlevel. If it has rained then you're onto plums - you need to avoid one long side !
