Just had to post as just had the most amazing experience (sheltered life you know) - Have just assisted in the birth of 9 whippet pups (first litter - seems a heck of a lot) - all doing well some weighed as much as 10 and 11 oz - smallest was 6oz but still doing really well - mother was an absolute angel - still on a high!!!
 
Its wonderful isn't it, I love being there when bitches whelp, although it is always a time of mixed emotions, as I also worry myself stupid until everything is over.
 
Pictures - Have now put three pictures on an album so if you click on Cyclops and look in the Minky album you should see them - not yet worked out how to upload them onto here - it's an age thing you know. By the way what do you think of Smartie while you're looking - should I let her have pups - My son is nagging me but not sure what to put her with if at all! Have a guess on her breeding! She is wonderful but is it right to breed from a cross breed?

If you want to do the rest, right click on the picture, select 'Copy image location', then when you type a reply, you will see a little icon above the box where you type that looks like a little yellow box with two grey triangles in it. Clicking on this brings up a box where you can paste the image location that you just copied, and that brings up the picture:)
 
Oh, I love those whippet pups. My late gran used to breed whippets, (she started the Twelsdown line) mainly fawn ones and I often begged her to breed a few coloured ones! How many dogs/bitches?
As for Smartie, she looks retriever x lab or retriever x pointer type? (a guess really). I am not a fan of breeding for the sake of, plenty of 'mongerals' about anyway.

Please please do not breed from your dog. There really is no need with the thousands and thousands in shelters.
 
Delighted you like the pictures of whippet babies - No I don't intend to breed from Smartie - my son is just nagging at me but he will be fine with a whippet pup!!! - By the way Smartie is a cocker x golden retriever and has the most brilliant nose - she and "whippet quick" work well together - Smartie flushes out for Minky to chase - works really well!!!! until they argue over whatever they catch!!!

theres been so many whippets pups born recently

i would love to have experiance a litter from one of my bitches but i thought it was easier just to buy another..hear of so many bitches having c sections aswell which put me off

Ohhh, how lovely. How is he/she bred - I may be able to tell you about a parent/grandparent or some form of relative!?!?
At one time, Gran had 20 whippets, she was ever so proud of them. I admired her attention to detail regarding every aspect of them. Sadly, I think the Twelsdown line is now dying out, but if an oppotunity arose for me to have a pure whippet, then I would without question.
 
:):):)What a lovely pic of mum and baby. I love whippets ( and pointers ) as we have a 15yr old fawn and white whippet boy. They are ideal family pets and my old boy used to visit a Residential Care Home and bought a lot of pleasure to the residents. Hes currently crashed out next to me on the sofa, probably dreaming of chasing rabbits

Your Grans line of Whippets was very well known and respected. Have you tried contacting any of the Whippet breed clubs for advice or tried searching on line the various clubs archives.?
