I have heard it, sure. To me it usually signifies we have had a warm, wet summer and thusly a bumper growing season. I wasn't aware that trees and bushes had any predicting abilities - if so I'd ask one about tomorrow's lottery numbers
I commented to OH the other day this very same thing..... the trees here are hanging with them...... whether or not is is true my dear..... only time will tell.......
I think it more likely means we'v had an ideal summer/ autumn for growth. what about the one that says if the rooks nest lower down in a tree we'r in for a bad winter?

Mmmmn perhaps but maybe if we have had a ideal summer odds are on for maybe a more *traditional* winter hence loads of berries for birds/animals to stock up with
the amount of blackberries that we've picked from my field this year is already filling our house with jam
Seriously, my field is parched at the mo,
I really hope we get some rain soon (field was sprayed for weeds again yesterday) and if we have the rain then I hope that/the plan is that we can fertilize it again - that would be great, but a wet winter I really don't want
However, if you mean a cold winter, as in frost rather than rain, then that is far preferable IMO
OMG!! i must have a 6th sense then!! i normally dont buy any extra clothes for winter... lucky if i get a hat or gloves. But for the past couple weeks i have been going on about getting some winter long boots (fleecy ones) for on the yard... and a trapper hat!!
OMG!! that is weird!!
I'd disagree about 'perfect' growing conditions in this neck of the woods!
It finally stopped raining about 2 weeks ago, our field is just beginning to dry out from the winter. At the yard our only water is collected from the rooves, last year we ran out, this year the water butts have been overflowing most of the time! And most of this summer it has been almost cold, most days it's been 12-14 degrees.
