ive only ever had a years worth of lessons in a riding school when i was 6 years old. ive been brought up in a family whos very much get on and deal with it.
i dont have lessons, im not inexperienced but would love to have some as i have a youngster. however, finanially its just too much atm... + i honestly hate lesson times. Very useful but utterly boring.
will have one a month though in new year - purely for the horses sake.
I dont again purely financial reasons. But thank goodness I have found an instructor on my yard with a small child who I really rate as an instructor who is willing to give me lessons in return for me going to shows with her and being her groom/child sitter - had my first one on Sunday and the difference was abseloutley amazing - cant belive how many bad habits I had and wasnt even noticing
I stopped having lessons after 3 years at a riding school learning to ride as I took on a loan pony and there were no freelance instructors nearby. Loan pony was devil incarnate and I learnt the cling on and hope style of riding which served me brilliantly. Situations change and after 17 years of hacking and having fun I've gone back to lessons again. Initially, I felt I was learning lots with a brilliant instructor - contact, bend, straightness... these were all alien concepts until recently. Unfortunately brilliant instructor has since left and now I'm terribly aware of all the things I need instruction in but am devoid of a decent instructor....
Can't help wishing I'd never restarted lessons, they say you don't miss what you haven't had!
I have not had a lesson since I learnt to ride as an adult, once that was accomplished I then had a stable management course. I then bought my first horse and off I went, sounds very simple but true. Ok I have fell off a few times over the last 18 years but it goes with the territory, and my safety seat as got more secure so it happens rarely.
Didn't used to - nervous of being rubbish and I also managed fine without. However, bringing on my new mare and getting interested in the finer points of riding and classical dressage made me want to improve the way we both go so now I have lessons. Brilliant and make me wish I hadn't left it so long! The only other lessons I had in over 15 yrs of riding were a couple of fairly useless years at a riding school when I was tiny!
I stopped having lessons when i got my horse 3 yrs ago. Couldnt afford them as keeping a navicular tb sound and happy cost alot of money lol and theres no good instructors at the yard i was at and didnt have transport. But i always wanted jumping lessons lol
