I'm still waiting to own my first horse, :( but have noticed on lots of threads that some of you have owned your horse/pony for many years, so it got me thinking, so how long is the longest you've owned for and is it longer than your longest relationship and are your partners jealous of your bond with you horsie?????? :D

Me! Longest continuous relationship with anything or anyone.

OH isn't jealous, he's got his own horsie now. Not bad, seeing as how he'd never considered horses as something he'd ever have anything to do with.

I've had my gelding 18 years, been with current OH for 8yrs which is my longest relationship. My boy has seen me through from teenager to now, met numerous boyfriends and listened to all my happiness and problems throughout these relationships.

My OH can be jealous of the time I spend with the horses, particularly this time of year with the lighter evenings when I go down the yard after work and don't come home sometimes until he is in bed! He just moans a bit but I think he and my gelding have respect for each other putting up with me sometimes!

I also have acquired 2 other horses since we got together ;)

This just goes to show that horses are easier to get on with than husbands or boyfriends!!!! lol So far the highest is 18 years, anyone any higher than that?????

Owned my ID mare for 14 years, my TB for 13 years and been with OH for 11 years. He's never jealous and now we have them at home he's happy to feed, fly spray, move strip grazing etc as needed.

Me! Current OH loves horse as much as I do. He wouldn't expect me to change my lifestyle to accommodate him.

My ex was jealous of anything that meant he wasn't centre of attention, eg he didn't mind me having a horse as long as it didn't impact on any time he wanted to spend with me. We all know horses need you when they need you, regardless of demanding boyfriends! So that was a constant source of friction between us.

Ultimately though, I'd never choose a boyfriend over a horse, any decent person would respect my lifestyle. It's not like I force people to go out with me!

I have had my horse 11 years and my longest relationship was 11 years so next year horse will be longer. One of the reasons horse has lasted so long is when I get fedup with the responsibility and pressure of being a horse owner, I put him out to grass, which is where he is now. I'm not riding at the moment and the livery owner is checking him several times a day. I'll pay him a visit at the weekend and give him some carrots and then I'll have a quiet pint at my local. In August, I'll be looking forward to getting back to working him and he will be chilled and relaxed. It's a pity you can't do this with your OH.

Dizzy I've owned for 20 years

OH I've been with for 12 years

OH loves Dizzy to pieces and feels comfortable doing anything (on the ground lol ) with him BUT is not interested at all with the new hairy pony. Doesn't mind me going out riding Dizzy, but cops the hump when I go out on the other one lol

I've been with my boyfriend for 3.5 years and had my pony for just under a year - boyfriend does get a bit put out when I say I can't do something because I have a date with my horse but he would never ask me to choose between them - probably because he's not sure he'd win :D

8 years with bud, almost 4 with other half. Only have one ex that was 4 years as well! Oh isn't jealous. He finds it hilarious that if I use the wrong perfume bud won't come in and he has to catch him despite not liking horses. Bud gives us time apart to do our own thing, which we both appreciate :-) he knows that if he gave me an ultimatum, he'd lose for making me choose. Same as im certain I'd lose if I told him to give up his American football. And I HATE the sound the pads make when he gets hit!
