rugged up already? usually i wait until october time but the last few days have seemed a bit chilly so i was thinking maybe just a lightweight rug but then i thought maybe i should let there coat get a bit longer.....
thoughts?? x
 
Ive got my cob in a light to medium weight rug at night at the moment, its been getting to below 5 degrees down my yard and i need to keep his coat down lol
 
I doubt it would make much different on the horses coat if you rug them

Non of mine are rugged, they don't need it. If it starts pelting it down I will put Ginny and Visions l/w on but thats it. Its not cold enough yet....

ETA: you also have to think if you rug them in a l/w with no filling it will flatten the hair and make them feel colder (hence why I only really use them when its windy/raining)

Think it depends on how the horse is, if you notice your coming up in the morning and your horse feels cold and you know the temperatures going to be cold at night then thats when you might wanna put a rug

and yeah someone told me that if you rug your horse up it would help them loose ther coat if they mult a bit more in the night but it doesnt seem to be working for my boy lol and then someone said its better to leave the light on during the night :S have no idea if light effects their coat lol

Light effects the growth of the coat more than rugging does. The shorter the days get, the longer their fur gets. Rugging really does have little effect.
