Who's Horses are out naked today?

It makes me cringe the thought of any horse in a rug today! It's 18 degrees where I am and I am in a t shirt and sitting in the garden. My mare is clipped, was naked last night and night before will stay so today and tonight. She has moulted all of her ear fluff in the last few days!

Its not 18 degrees everywhere though!
I have 3 that are fully clipped out in 200g rugs today - its about 11 degrees here & windy.
If it was 18 then they would be naked!

Depends on the horse of course, but it was 10 degrees last night and mine was left naked all last night. 11 degrees isn't cold (unless of course it's torrential unrelenting wind and rain). Mine will usually have a fleece on at night and a lightweight in day if it's anything under about 6 or 7 degrees, a medium weight if it's around 3 degrees or below. She will only go in a heavyweight if it's like last winter and getting down to -10!!

I chickened out of taking my boys rug off at lunch as its not that good here. Typical not i have got back to work its improving outside

you are kidding?!

its a lot warmer but its still not exactly hot and a fully clipped horse will have NO hair, no ability to fluff up and keep warm!

mines in a 120gm full neck quilt, full neck fleece and 360gm HW, and a snuggy hood.

I actually dread to think how much condition he'd lose if was whipping his rug off as soon as it was double figures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My AES mare lives out. It's 11c here and dull. She has a 100gm fill on atm. The lightweight no fill rug is ready in the wings and she would be wearing that now but she went lame so isn't charging about much getting hot- consequently will leave her will 100g of fill for now.

I dread to think how much condition he'll lose out in 17 degrees wearing all that lot. He must be frying if it's as warm with you as it is here!

Super-hairy cob's gone out naked. Poor girl looked like she'd done a couple of circuits round the gallops after our amble round the village. She even needed a hose down!

18C!

High of 4C here, snowing heavily with snow alerts out.

Some of mine have blankets on, some don't, some have made it quite clear they don't want blankets on at all.

They are all shedding and itchy so I'll probably take them off later, it isn't forecast to drop any lower than -8C at night, so pretty springlike really, but I'm not holding my breath, it is only February.

PLEASE tell me that's a joke?!!! Even at 10 degrees that is ridiculous and your horse is probably sweltering and very uncomfortable.

when I turned out at 6.30 this morning it was raining and windy so I left her in the 200g combo she'd slept in (put her turnout back on last night) cos she was warm enough. I haven't been able to get back during the day, the car read 11 degrees at 10am so hopefully she won't be too hot. She's hunter clipped with no hair of her own but if it's still like this tomorrow, which it should be, she'll be out in a lw instead

That's over 500g - more like 600g - mine wouldn't have that much on unless fully clipped and it was -4 or more at night. Horses don't like to be hot!

I dread to think how much condition he will loose sweating to cool down!

Only saw this cause of Moomin's post- really hope it's a joke!

My youngster's been out naked all year, and still is today. He's loosing fluff like there's no tomorrow :)

My Connie who was clipped a week ago (fully- all off) is out in a lightweight sheet.

Yep :D he has a bit of fat to loose before spring any way so it wont do him any harm. He wasnt this morning because it was still quite cold before the sun came out but I went down at lunch time and stripped him nekked :D. Him and his mate were running roung like nutters when I went in with them and he was hot by the time he had calmed down enough to stand still for me to strip him .

They would be if I fancied exchanging them for sticky bog monsters  They're in rain sheets...

Daemon is, but he's been naked all winter ;)

its (apparently,im in an office and havent been outside since 8.30am) 14 degrees here, sunny but quite breezy, and friend who brings in has just text me to say they are all perfect temps, warm in armpits and between legs etc but not hot to touch and not sweating, all happily eating :)

cant do pics from work but CS looks like a gleaming bullock-hasnt lost an ounce of condition so far over the winter..................i refuse to let him shiver off all the calories i pay to pour down his throat, makes no sense at all.

they'd be shivering out naked today.

I seriously still hope you are joking?!!! SHIVERING in 14 degrees if they didn't have nearly 600g of rugs piled on them?!!! Words fail me. DISGUSTING. Sorry.

Just been for a walk up on the hill at lunchtime and it is glorious. Glad I whipped the rugs off mine this morning they would be roasting by now. Oh how lovely is it to be warm again
