I was hoping to hold off for another couple of weeks but my boy is getting so hot so I think I'm going to clip him tonight - an irish clip with his neck off. I feel i'm actually clipping quite later this year - the last couple years ive clipped in September. Would love to see pics of your clips - I need line inspiration as I'm rubbish with lines!

You certainly won't get inspiration for the 'clip' I did on my Cushings boy the other night. He has grown a good winter coat already but with the very warm sunny weather was doing his usual patchy sweating so I just clipped those areas. He is now sporting a very undesirable chest, elbows and partial flank clip with very jagged lines.

I am allergic to horse hair and just had to get the bits off as quickly as possible. Over the weekend I will load up on anti-histamines and neaten it up.

Would love to see this! I'm sure he looks cool and different!

I'm just waiting for some rug liners to arrive then I'm going to clip. Maybe at the weekend if the rain stops. Think I'll blanket clip to start with and leave him out naked until the weather gets nasty, then when he starts needing a rug I'll clip it all off.

I clipped in early August - really warm weather an a horse that's crossed with polar bear.

As an early clip which would grow out fast, and my poor ability to do straight lines - I tried curves instead !! You might need to zoom in to see as it's a terrible photo ! Sorry

My pony has censored all photos.
I did an impulse clip last night in the dark using trimmers with a questionable amount of charge in them.
My two seem to have gone "poof" overnight and fully fluffed up their coats. The gelding is fine because he has a weedy TB coat, but retired cob mare is getting too hot, So I whizzed off what I could last night (not a bad impression of a bib clip)
I'll turn it into a low trace clip at the weekend.

The Shetlands got a bib clip each yesterday, they are out naked all year round so didn't want to take too much off.
Big horse was clipped this morning. Started off doing an Irish type clip, then thought sod it. So it's all come off. Need to finish his legs tmw bit we were both a bit fed up so called it quits.
I also feel it's later then usual. But then this is a 'new' horse who is only just in enough work to warrant clipping.
My previous cob used to get her first one done on the August bank holiday, then every two-three weeks until Christmas. Hopefully new boy won't need it so often

Not yet but hoping to clip my mare probably at the weekend as she’s got quite a bit of coat and is getting very hot when ridden. I’m tempted to take the lot off so her actually winter coat isn’t so thick and next time do a blanket clip. Don’t know what she will be like with it all off too as she can be a bit sharp 😂 although it’s not that cold yet so should be ok. Also she has sweet itch so I don’t know if it will make it worse having it all off… she lives in her sweet itch rugs and and I can put a turnout over the top if she needs more layers.

I clipped my mare last night but when I started, instantly knew it was too soon! her coat wasn't anywhere near as fluffy as I thought it was! going to do my gelding tonight, who looks like a teddy bear already! but he's tummy has been a bit sore from the fresh grass, so wanted to give him a few days on his gut supplement so I don't get kicked when I clip his tummy!

For self & OH its a "Forth Bridge" scenario! Take one 23 yo (permanent loan) coblet with CPL & hyperkeratosis and then clip - totally - from ears to tail - every 6 weeks all year round 🤣 🙈 - thank goodness he is only 12.2 (although built like brick s**t house) & he is also just brilliant at falling asleep while we do our worst🤣 One day I'll work out how to put pics up.

I just clip once a year it’s a full clip everything is clip off except for legs and half a head stays on, I tried to do it October or early November . My horse is crazy fluffy at the moment I really went to clip but realistically the coat is still growing so I would have to re clip 2 weeks later.

Bo's had his second clip. Did a hunter clip this time and he's still hot!

Did the first 2 hacks afterwards with a thin exercise sheet, but ditched it when it became apparent that it wasn't needed. Hacked today without it and he was really hot.

I've been putting a rainsheet on at night because it felt mean not too, but I'm sure he doesn't need it.

Not showing pics cos he is incredibly ticklish. I have to just get it done as quickly as possible while he fidgets.

God yes, clipping a black horse in a dark stable - it's embarrassing when you lead outside.

I have given up on trying to do anything decent, I think my horses are all curvy and just cannot do straight lines.

I start with bib clips then extend a bit every week or 2 until it's all off. The draft needs a lot off the sides because he gets itchy but needs something left on his back because he gets cold so he ends up with something that looks like a cot bed blanket on a king-sized bed.

@Gloi his poor resigned face! But I bet he felt better with all that removed.
He was a master at looking hard done by 🤣
He's in his late 20s there and he was the toughest little horse you could ever wish to meet. Carried my lard arse for thousands of miles over 20+ years, was never ill and only lameness was once from a nail in his hoof.
