Why are you not just giving?

I should...

I have negative 60p in my bank account

So I think that explains why.

Knew nothing about it until I saw your post . . . . .

And that's why I had the other box

I knew I'd miss one point of view or lack of!

I think charitable giving is a very personal choice. I'm not sure if the intention of this post is to encourage more giving to this cause; if so, i think it's the wrong way to go about it.

My overdraft is permanently maxxed and I owe a friend £420 which I'm paying back today, leaving me £50 for the rest of the month!

Er no it's neither to encourage or dissuade so I think you'll find since there was no motive I'm not 'going the wrong way' about anything.

All I was saying is that I wondered why there was, what I think is, a relatively low turn out.

My intention is to give to the Godiva fund when I get round to it, but I have been too busy working to actually notice the thing had been set up!

I do give to lots of charities - Redwings, Cats Protection, Cancer Research and BHF, so I am always very picky about what I give money to. I don't generally donate to people who post their justgiving website on here who are say cycling lands end to wherever, because I just can't afford to do things like that, much as people get p*ssed off when people don't donate, but I will donate to a cause where many people are getting involved.

I would guess it is because we are in a recession.

People are less likely to give to others when they are feeling the pinch or saving for a rainy day.

I wasn't aware of this? What happens when £5000 is reached? HHO user running around naked photos lol

brilliant. It looks like a really good cause but I've just had to move house because of the recession so things are very tight

Just read the thread on sb, sounds great

Might be worth explaining a bit more on the webpage about submitting photos etc, I'm on here almost everyday and I wasn't aware of this + didn't notice the thread in soapbox so perhaps others haven't either?

I wasn't aware until I read this post. So have clicked the link and given some to you. Good luck hope you raise lots.

I actually just received this in my student email inbox. I do not know the person and it sounds to me like she wants to be sponsored for an experience that many, many people pay thousands of pounds of their own money to do as a wonderful experience, and is implementing it into her Masters. Fair enough, but I don't see why I should sponsor her, when I have people very dear to me who would love to do similar things but cannot afford to!

"To all,

My name is Eleni Bimpiri and I am a masters student in Special Education Needs.

I am really excited to have been selected to participate in the Inclusive Education Project in Rwanda, a 10 day project which aims to increase the number of disabled children accessing quality and relevant education. For me personally, this is an incredible chance of a once in a lifetime opportunity and raising the funds needed for this trip is a difficult but worthwhile challenge!!!

Your support and encouragement would be verrry much appreciated, so please sponsor me! Every little will help me and is very much appreciated.

Here's a link to my justgiving page: http://www.justgiving.com/elenibimpiri

A BIG thank-you in advance, for your kind support.

Eleni"

I owe to many people too much money to think of paying any extras at the moment. Perhaps once I've gotten myself straightened out and I'm not trying to start and run a new business then I'll think about giving some money to other people.

I can't get the link to work at the moment. What charity is Godiva fundraising for this year? Perhaps if their choice of charity is more widely announced, might encourage more people to donate?

a) I was completely unaware of this.
b) Now I am aware it isn't a charity that I support. I'm very hard up, and tend to support charities that deal with equines in the UK and HIV/Aids in the UK.

I'm waiting until I get paid, for example my two have have me £200.00 last week, what with HRT injections and routine flut and tet and both needing the farrier!

So it will just have to wait until after the 25th I'm afriad but I promise I will contribute.

The Robert Jones And Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic And District Hospital Charitable Fund

This year's money will go to help fund the spinal injury unit at Oswestry hospital, where Weezy's brother Julian Davies received the majority of his care, and where countless fellow horse riders have been treated and rehabilitated following falls.

Fair enough - I just personally don't think anyone should ever have to explain/justify why they do/don't give to particular causes or charities. Regardless of whether it was not your intention, some people may feel pressured.

It's an anonymous vote! you can vote and leave no comment or no vote and leave no comment or leave a comment and not vote. I wasn't asking anyone to justify their choice and if people feel pressurised by my silly little vote then they really need to grow a spine.
