Mine's a bit of 1 and 2... I've always loved cobs, especially traditionals, and also known they were good weight carriers. Tbh, since having Harry, I've found out so much more about the different breeds (massively due to this forum!!) and if I got another one, not sure I'd be able to be so sure which to choose! Now I'm liking IDs and Fresians and Fells and Dales, love my big horses hehe :D

I love ponies :) When my old horse died, (appaloosa) I set about looking for a similar horse as I love their temperament and attitude. Nothing came close. Then my childhood dream of owning a Highland came to the fore and that's what I've got now. I love the highland attitude, also it isn't far to the ground!

I didn't really choose breed specific tbh...I had two natives , then got my TB lad...and now hairycob alongside him....with a few hunters thrown in too!!

Diversified hehe.

simples :D i fell in love with heras soon as i saw her in the stable and i had to have her!!! She nuzzledmy hair as i stroked her neck and was so gentle and lovely, i just knew she was the one :)

I've not answered as I've not actually bought one yet! But my choice has been restricted because I'm sharing with hubby so needs to be big enough for his long lanky legs! So that put paid to my teenage dreams of owning a chestnut arab mare just like in the Jinny books........

So we are looking at IDs and ID crosses.

when i was horse hunting i said i NEVER EVER wanted a brown horse because i thought they were a bit too common/ boring (no offence meant by that) but when i couldnt find anything suitable i stopped being so picky and came across lady (2nd horse i viewed) and clicked immediately.....shes a bay TB X Arab and wouldnt change her for the world <3

My mother chose our arab as she'd always wanted one - I hated them! and chose myself a nice solid English cob :)

but I must admit I've totally bonded with the arab se is the sweetest most loving animal ever, hes super fast and fun.

My next horse willdef be a pure bred arab for endurance I'm totally hooked!!

I knew I wanted a finer build as I wanted to event, and I have a TBxCob and a ISH. But not particularly bothered about breed as such, just type, so long as it ticks the right boxes. :D

Well, I'd always been interested in spanish type horses, as has my mum, so when I went on holiday she (being a big timewaster!) went to see a 4yo lusitano x TB. When I got back from holiday I was made to go and see him, took some persuading - honestly! - and we bought him after that.

So half chance, half nosey mother ;)

Definitely a Serendipity situation for me! I was out there looking for a 15-16hh loan horse. Any breed would have done, of medium/chunky build.

Then my friend's exmoor (12hh, more suitable for a midget, albeit a very strong midget!)suddenly became homeless about 240 miles from where her parent's farm was and the rest is history. More than 10 years later I have two of the buggers! I do want a bigger horse, but I can't bear to part with him (or my mare!), so I just put up with the sarky comments!

I was gutted when I got taller when I was a teenager and I was banned from riding the ponies. Went to ride for an instructor of mine at her private yard, discovered natives - fell ponies to be precise and that was that, now the proud owner of a 13.2hh Fell pony (although of course there was a fair bit of right place, right time, right price as well!).

I went with 3, but would have ticked 2 as well if I had been able.

With Captain we wanted a dressage type horse who would hack out as well, preferably a ID or cross. We got a KWPN Gelderlander, who is a dressage horse, but who naps etc and hates hacking, although he is getting better all the time. I had never even heard of Gelderlanders, we went to a dealers to see a couple of Irish horses, but they weren't suitable, Cappy was there. He was such a looker we asked about him, and bought him then and there, didn't even get him vetted . Silly or what, luckily he has never been lame *touches wood* or had any other health issues, except a bout of gaseous colic.

With Fany we were after a bombproof weight carrier, for me to hack out and Elizabeth, my daughter, to school and bring on. She is exactly what we were looking for.

When I was a teenager, a few too many moons ago.. I had a Dales X that could jump fantastically and was very responsive, so I decided that, as I am originally a Yorkshire Lass, I wanted a Dales pony to show and ride. I've now got two youngsters and wouldn't swap them for the world.

I've always always wanted a traditional coloured but I always felt silly being so specific, so ended up with other breeds at first. I had a TBxConnemara, a purebred Connie, a Welshie to name a few...
... eventually, when I sold my last pony and started the search for my current horse, I decided I had to stick to my guns as nothing else was ever going to be good enough, as I'd found in the past. So I did...!

6 months, 15 horses later, I found Freddie! He was everything I had in my head and more!

Mine's kind of 3 really.

My sister, when very young, went on a school trip to a rare breeds farm in Kent (Hollanden Park) which we went back to as she liked it. We saw some foals and, as mum was getting divorced (and dad hates horses!) decided to buy one (thinking that I, then aged 10) wouldn't grow much more!!! I still have Mousey but he's redundant (field ornament).

The others were all by chance really - didn't have any particular specification in mind - just had to be safe (when I was younger!) and nice to handle! We've got an Eriskay, TBxArabxID, Trakenher, Cleveland Bay x ? (passport says NF?!), and Blackjack was WelshxTB.

Quite an assortment!
