A single track road runs through our yard, to get to the fields you have to walk a little way down it.
I take the dogs to the fields with me to have a run, but leading two horses and two dogs on leads is a pain, so I leave the dogs loose, they are well behaved and just follow me.
On the way back (so no horses) the wind was screaming accross the road and I couldn't hear a thing, until halfway up the road I heard a beep and saw a car right behind me.
I moved onto the grass verge and one dog came with me, the other one is old and stupid and was comming, but a bit slow but the car didn't stop. As I saw the dog dissapearing under the front bumper I jumped in front of the car screaming and signaling her to stop, she did, but only because she thought I was going to smash the bucket I was holding onto her bonnet !
I got the dog and returned to the verge to be treated to some abuse from the driver (which I also couldn't hear because of the wind).
Ok so maybe the dog should have been on a lead, but its not as if she was out of control, and we were on a single track road, with no pavement so as a pedestrian I was entitled to be in the road.
Would it realy have taken up that much time in her busy day to give me a couple of seconds to get safely out of her way ?

Not what you want to hear, but you endangered your old dog by not keeping it under proper control.
Edited to add: If I had been the driver, I'd have flattened it.

Yes in theory you should have had them compleately under control, but i think she just sounds like an ignorant bitch, as she had already seen you, thats the trouble with so many people these days its all me, me, me, i think i would have gone mental at her...

Going mental - good plan.
Much better than taking any responsibility.
After all, everyone is entitled to have their own circus parade down a public road, and if the drivers nearly hit your pet pooch....well, they're obviously ignorant, bad people.
Devil forbid you should have to keep your animals under control...after all...that may be inconvenient for you.
Far better that someone else's day is disrupted by the panic of nearly hitting your dog.

Sorry gotta sat I agree with Shilasdair on this one. Its the same as dogs on yards - the owners should take responsibility for them.

Yes but she had already seen the dogs! and just carried on, thats the difference, if you were riding down that lane and someone drove past you fast on a spooky horse, perhaps there reply should be 'have your horse under control, dont ride on the road' when your horse decides to buck you off, its just about basic courtesy, its not like she was walking on the motorway.

i hope you are perfect all the time yourselves then

Well, my religion doesn't quite aspire for perfection as such....I have other aims.
yeah take it out on the dog why don;t you?

Yes, dog crushing is one of those aims.
Protect your dogs against me by keeping them on a lead or off the public highway

I think the point of this post is that the woman didnt give a s**t about running an old dog over, because it was HER RIGHT to have prior access on that road.

I love the irony of this post 'why do people have to be so nasty', the poor poster is looking for sympathy and support but instead Auntie Shilasdair voices her opinion which I am sure will be seen as 'nasty'!!!!!

Well it made me laugh anyway.....

How many of us do what we SHOULD do all of the time, not many of us really, yes maybe the dog should have been on a lead, but please the motorist was just being an idiot.

I got the point of the post loud and clear , it was harly rocket science!

It wouldnt of taken up much of her time..but unfortunately people seem to be in such a rush to get everywhere these days. I stopped in a lane to wait for a rider to come past and a man was driving behind her obviously annoyed that she was holding him up, when the poor rider pulled into a gateway he went right out around her instead of waiting til she was out of the way. No thanks to me or her for pulling in to let him past! I sometimes feel like saying to these people 'where exactly are you going that is so important'
