I like it on a horse that likes it too! Nothing worse than trying to get a green, nervous or plain not enjoying it one round!
I agree with the op! I much prefer jumps that fall down.
I've been riding for 25 years and never ever jumped a XC fence! Tho fellow rc members are trying to persuade me to try!
Popping a log in the woods on a hack is one thing but actually, willingly directing your horse at one of those things.................... You are all MAD!![]()
I do however love watching XC. And regularly am a crossing point steward at events!
I used to be a bit of a puff then I got my old mare & she was unstoppable xc would happily pop over intermediate fences with her eyes closed she got me brave
Then i worked producing & I actually prefered xc'ing the babies to sj'ing them
I now have a 4 year old who I've had from a 2 year old broke her myself only been xc schooling once & we both loved it jumped all the 80s & some 90s with no issues cant wait to get out again next year
When I was a child I dreamed I'd be an event rider, sadly I realised I lack 2 things guts and money! My OH use to event up to Novice level ( he'd like to get back into it with our youngster) I'd go to events with him and watch him and his mare go from the start box and then I'd run to the finish and be on pins, listening to the commentary , till they came home safe!
My mare loves jumping, I do show jump her when my blood is up and I'd love to give her a go XC but she gets so excited, it terrifies me! Think I'll stick to dressage, chicken that I am!
i think you've got your approach to xc all wrong...poncy sj canter =huge sj jump
I would consider myself a showjumper but xc is just exhilerating..
you've got to be up for and have everything in it to enjoy/be successful xc
Having a horse in gallop and jumping out of their stride with no adjustment from you is one of the best feelings on earth![]()
