It doesn't bother me whether a horse is a mare or a gelding. All my horses have been complete individuals. If I get on with a horse, I get on with it, despite it's sex! I used to have mares, they were all lovely, none of them were ever mareish though. Then I got a gelding and he is lovely too.
There is one horse at my yard who has made me certain I will never buy a mareish mare though! She is so miserable, ears back if you go near her. Kicks out when you brush her legs. Seems to be constantly in season, squirting non stop and it doesn't smell very nice!! When she is in season she refuses to work when being ridden, instead will rear, buck and run backwards. And worst of all, she has attached herself to my gelding and won't leave him alone! Follows him everywhere squirting at him and squealing and calling for him when he leaves the field! I know he is handsome but leave off!
