why do you? - blogs for horses

Those of you who have blogs/ facebook pages and similar for your horses, why do you do this?

This is not in any way a dig at those who do i'm just curious as to what motivated you to set it up in the first place and then to keep it updated etc I dont mean those who use it as a form of advertisement for their business' or services they offer.

Possibilities i have come up with;
- For your own personal reference to track both yours and horses progress, if other people want to follow too thats cool.
- Friends and Family sick to death of your personal page being filled with horses
- Raise a profile in the hope of sponsorship
- Because your horse has a fan following who like to keep updated with his/ her whereabouts

I have thought about it in the past with the main motivator being the first point in my list, however i decided that i didn't really care about the second point so i just add photos etc to my own page!

Really interested in any blogs people write so leave a link if you like!
 
First and second points :D, nice way of keeping track of progress without boring every non-horsey person :o.
My facebook blog is in my signature I think.
 
I'm a bit of all of your points bar the 3rd one (I highly doubt we'd ever have enough followers to be of interest to a sponsor, plus I'm an amateur so dont need sponsorship anyway). I love having a facebook page that documents what we have done and when, I am useless at writing things down so the facebook page is great for watching our progress. Mine is a 3 year old that I've had since the age of 1 so its been a lovely journey and is getting to the exciting bit now! Bean does have a bit of a following too, we've been at a couple of yards and he tends to make lots of friends wherever he goes, people love him and like to keep up to date with what he is doing! Also good to not bore my non-horsey friends to death!

Plus, he was so cheeky when he was a baby that I thought other people might like a laugh. He hasn't improved much now he's 5 to be honest :D
 
I did it because a few people (because they liked my posts rather than were sick of them, I think, lol) urged me to and I also had a feeling that I was probably boring many of my friends to death with horse posts on FB. I used to have a very successful shepherding blog with a massive following. People loved it. I just got more into horses and don't run my dogs in trials nor do I contract shepherd or train young dogs so there isn't as much to say about things.

Sadly the moment I set up the horse one almost I had an accident so haven't had much to report on yet lol.

I like the fact that people can follow you on FB if they want to, rather than ramming down people's throats on here or on my personal page.
 
First point, plus it kept me entertained while he was on box rest for a considerable period :) Plus my mum/family likes to read it (no fb friends)
 
I started mine as I came to horses late in life. I will only ever have this one, so it will be a way of remembering/reliving my horsey time.
 
I started Kevin's page because well he asked me to, he has big feet and couldn't work the phone, so apparently it was my job to let his adoring public know how he is doing!!!

It stops my FB page being only about my horse, it keeps it separate from my ceramic work and then it doesn't bore my few but vocal, non horsey friends. (Most of whom seem to have joined the page anyhow :) )

Its also fun and I hope entertaining, it gives me a blow by blow record of my time with Kevin and allows me to chart his progress and of course my progress to. I can and do look back at it and already I can see just how far me and my "little" horse have come.

First and second points for me! Gives me an easy place to dump exercises from lessons, Outings and videos. It also helps me keep an eye on her weight in a less direct fashion :) x
 
I have a Health & Fitness blog as its something I'm really passionate about. I wish I had started one when I had the horses though. I love writing and being creative, and for me, blogging is a hobby.
 
I never understood why people had Facebook pages for their horse/s, but this thread has opened up my eyes :)

I can see why people would do it now, as my own Facebook page is only ever updated with pictures of my horse. I never put anything personal on there, so it's just horsey pictures all the time!

It sounds like a good way to keep track of your progress without annoying your non horsey friends.
 
I have become a bit of a touch base for people new to dressage or grass roots riders (due to being a trainee judge, who writes and scores at a lot of events and who rides a very average horse) and have/had lots of conversations with friends and acquaintances who value a grassroots input, plus just somewhere to note down my reflections, somewhere for people to safely ask questions/debate things.
 
Just point 1 for me. I knows few of my family read it too from time to time, and though I try to write it so someone other than me would find it entertaining to read, it is just for me to look back on and give myself a little pat on the back when I'm having a bad day.
 
Two reasons for me - I thought it would be nice to chart my boy's progress and have it all in one place. There were also a lot of people wanting to follow his progress so it was easier to set up a blog/fb page. However, my dedication to it lasted for a very short period of time, I had far too much to do in life/work and it fell by the wayside!
 
Im thinking of setting one up for my horse, everywhere we go people love her and we have a waiting list of people who would buy her should she ever come up for sale (she wont) so I thought it might be a fun way of writing down what we are doing for my sake and letting people see her and the things she does as she is a cob.
 
Point 1 primarily. I love to write, always have done. I've had a few blogs in the past and a background in digital marketing, so building and maintaining websites as well as content creation is a passion of mine. I wanted somewhere that I could keep track of my progress, and also hopefully help anyone who may also be in the same situation as me (amateur rider working full time, attempting to start Eventing but with little clue as to what I am doing!) - or at the very least give people a laugh :)
