Quick question, am currently putting together a powerpoint presentation on equestrian disciplines for a student teacher training day on Wed.

First slide is why are horses so popular? So, anyone fancy telling me why they ride/own horses?

Because, since I can remember I have been fascinated, and always loved horses. They are fantastic animals, and I think trying to figure them out is part of the fun!!!

BTW if you don't want that one in your avatar, I'll have it!!!!!

I ride to school them for driving, fun, relaxation and working towards competitions.I own them, partly as the family has since I can remeber, because you enjoy it more that way, and can end up cheaper, and TBH you can make a profit (Or break even

) if you have them as a project (Tally;))

because of the unique partnership that you and your horse have that no one can get between,

Because they're beautiful, powerful and captivating.
They lend us power that we do not have, and teach us how to use it, how to be patient, and how not to expect too much

Plus, they're usually better at listening than most people!

Not to mention, it's one hell of an adrenaline rush to go galloping, is it not? (or ride passage, or jump anything over 3ft, or simply watch your horse bomb around the paddock having fun!

That's my opinion anyway

Ditto This!
The only person that wont go round telling people your secrets and wont tell you to shut up when you ramble on too much. Both of you go through thick and thin together and we both help each other

Nick.

same here... and for the adrenaline rush jumping, and the satisfaction of schooling, and for the smell of horses! Yummy!

Couldn't be without it!

Because I've always been fascinated by them, I love the fact that we can contain their power, I love the adrenaline. And more then anything in the world, I love the way they 'listen' when you cry and need a cuddle.

I don't think I can put into words why... There is just something about a horse that makes me happier than anything....

They are just so calming and seem to be able to take all my stresses away.

The interaction I get between me and my horse. I love looking after them and then you get the added bonus of being able to ride and compete.

You can do so many different things with a horse which you can fit in with your lifestyle and time of life - i.e. competing, hacking, bringing on youngsters, breeding etc.

It's an all encompassing lifestyle, not a hobby.

Was it Winston Churchill that said "There's something about the outside of a horse that's good for the inside of a man."

I have loved horses for as long as I can remember. I used to beg my Mum for my own horse but my Mum was too tight fisted!!

lol
I started riding when I got a job and it I love it.
Every horse has its own personality and well they are just such gorgeous animals, big, strong but gentle....well most of them!
The rush that you get from cantering and galloping is fab and also when jumping I personally find it quite addictive, but it is also the bond you form with them.

Because they're beautiful.
Because they don't judge.
Because they're powerful but obedient.
Because they demand 100% concentration.
Because they take me places I couldn't otherwise go.
Because they're not machines.
Because they're rewarding.
Because ... I always have.

I saw a quote somewhere that summed it up

"I could be at parties full of laughter and mirth but being with horses is the best place on Earth"

I love the smell of a horses nose
I love the way they look at me, like they are all seeing and all knowing
I love the way they seem to listen and understand
I love the way that they can make people equal
I love the way they teach me to slow down, not rush after a bad day
I love the way I can throw my arms around his neck, and he hugs me back ;-)

and weirdly, not one of the things I love involves actually riding!

I just do!! I t's who I am!!! Horses are a way of life- not just a hobby!!!

Alos, I think it helps to be slightly insane

Because I do so much for them yet somehow it always seems rewarding! never worked out why!
Nobody else understands how i can spend such a long time with horses, but i couldn't think of anything better, it is all i have ever known and the way that i have been brought up.
I just love their calm nature, even though mine are mad most the time, their loving ways, and just them
smile.gif

Tbh i think i may be mad!

Don't ask me, I am so fed up that I have just put every single one of mine on the market!

Originally, because I liked to ride, and I enjoyed being with them.

I don't know. I have never been able to put my finger on exactly why I am so addicted. I think about horses every second of the day! It's mad! Something about them (the special moments) just makes my heart skip a beat. And I know that dressage is my drug - the feeling I got today after my lesson (FAB trainer - was practising changes, doing a bit of a botched job as I'd never done them before, but each time I got one I grinned like the Cheshire Cat
grin.gif
) was better than anything! I'd rather have one riding session like that than a year's worth of chocolate! Endorphins I suppose, but... no... it's more than that! I'm still grinning now and I finished the lesson at 3pm!
grin.gif

If I was told I couldn't ride again, I don't know what I'd do! Probably carry on anyway - I'm totally addicted!
