why does it have to be my way or nothing on this board?

I read some of the posts and are quite frankly amazed at some of the incredibly strong opinions voiced on here as fact. And often quite antagonistic. Owners choose to keep their horses in a way which suits them (the owners) but why the attitude if someone else does not agree? Why not allow that other people make different choices and if their horses are happy and doing well, why not?

So let me confess my huge list of sins. My horse is kept on part livery. I clip out my younger horse. I rug accordingly. I shoe him. He is turned out for between 1/2 to a day depending on weather so nope, he does not live out 24 x 7. I didn't pay £300 for him. Yet when I read a lot of these posts it would seem that in some peoples eyes I have committed numerous sins. Oh and the worst thing is... he is a competition horse. One that I enjoy hugely and is great fun.

Can we just lighten up a little here? we are on the forum as horse lovers yet seem incredibly critical if people deviate from a certain path. To read these posts, it would seem that I must have a barefoot, living out horse, unclipped, unrugged and preferably one that cost next to nothing. And that is the only option. Fair play to those who keep their horses like that. I made different choices dependant on my lifestyle and what I want to do with mine. Neither choice is better, just different.

Thoughts? shall I sit back and see what unfurls?!

Goodness me you have him shod and clipped? Shame on you! Take no notice, enjoy what works best for you, and wade in when you have a reasonable opinion - which is what most people do on this Forum - if you feel the urge to have a view on some of the more controversial posts (like horse owners on benefits, the only way is barefoot, I love chucking ropes at my horse, my horse is hunter clipped and lives out all winter with no rugs, is Alfa A the only way........then expect some lively debate - and it does often liven up a otherwise dull evening.......LOL

Love it that the forum has the measure of certain users. I haven't been around that long but long enough to know what's what.

Notice that nobody has mentioned PS by name but she has firmly decided these posts are about her (or why else would she attempt to explain/defend?). I would suggest it is because she DOES recognise her own actions in the poor behavious being discussed. There can't possibly be any other explanation.

Oh doooo bog off :)

come off it, there are not many posters that fit that TX's description of being 2 girls who post together, matchy, bling etc. AFAIK there is only myself and NMT that are related and make conjoined posts on HHO, so not sure who else it could be? especially as TX has made the same comment multiple times and not once denied she means us?

it doesnt really bother me at all, call it a personality clash or whatever you want but i dont have to accept her opinion any more than she has to accept mine, such is the way of the world. ......what i havent done is go round making snide remarks on completely irrelevant threads (repeatedly) for the sake of it-you can't deny that TX had NO reason to make the original remark other than.......being bitchy? nasty?trying to cause a fight? bizarre actions for someone who claims to have better things to do.........

Gold star for Baubles And girls no running in the corridor ( what was the issue with running in corridors ).

When my Mum was a kid she went to some posh private school with parquet flooring, which would be polished with beeswax every other day (or some similarly regular routine).

If you ran on it you'd slip on the polish and hurt yourself. Which begs the question why have nice, shiny floors if they're going to do you an injury every time you need to pick up some speed.

Apparently they were very good for skidding along at break times though, as long as there were no nuns around (but by the sound of it most of the nuns were mad, and would have been off doing mad things like climbing out of their upper story windows after locking themselves in their rooms).

It's not relevant to the OP, or running in corridors with say, non-lethal flooring. But that's my (2nd hand) anecdote and I won't be bullied into retracting it.

Yeaahh .... Thread has switched to running in corridors.
My primary school had tiled floors and a long tempting corridor. In rainy weather it got dirty and wet and we loved sliding on it when teacher wasn't watching. Then someone put their hand through the glass door at the end. Lots of blood:eek:

And running is so unladylike as is crossing the legs:eek:

For what it's worth, I completely agree with you. An obvious, and rather unimpressive dig......

Goldenstar & amymay have the same opinion, they must be a clique, pack mentality, bullying etc. I'm going to go against the grain & say we didn't bother much with running in corridors at school. Because we had the best bannisters ever at primary school for sliding down. Went down a floor, round a corner, & down another floor. Keep your crummy corridor sliding.

Sliding on the horizontal or sliding on the diagonal .. Wonder if this is a change of subject yet again. Bet someone will now add their experience of sliding down poles. It's slip sliding away.:D

It annoys me that people have such strong ideas about the equine blood bank. This has given a lot of horses that are unable to be ridden and who would otherwise have either been passed from pillar to post or pts, a fantastic extra few years of a very natural and enviable life.

It also annoys me that people feel free to comment on the fact that me and my horse look like a christmas tree when we hack out in our flourescent. At least the odds are that we will arrive back at the yard as an alive christmas tree instead of in a boyd bag. :)

It annoys me how other posters feel they can pull apart another posters reply to a thread, instead of just giving the OP a good enough reply to their thread. It is an open forum and posters can post what they like within reason, and everyone has a different view on things in life and it is not up to other posters to criticise what posters feel or think, it is cyber bullying.

Ha ha. Love whole this entire thread has meandered off course and then found its own way back..

Now I am going to start another thread about draw reins...red wine anyone ?!

i dont agree. the term 'bullying' gets thrown about far too much. There's no excuse for rudeness and this website is FAR better than others as far as not being personal or aggressive is concerned. If you're too sensitive to take a difference of opinion without shouting about 'cyber bullying' then perhaps you shouldnt be on the internet. REAL cyber bullying is a very serious matter and isnt tolerated on a site as generally well moderated as HHO.

Im a regular poster on a UK City corporate Lawyer discussion board and how they talk and the names they call each other online would make your hair curl. I kid you not. NOT what you'd expect!
The posts on HHO are positively angelic in nature compared to many forums and i do think thats down to a lot of moderating from the posters themselves generally believe it or not.

I am totally open minded and will try anything if I think it will benefit my horse or I and I'm open to different management styles. I find it very sad that some people are so set in their ways that they just will not entertain that something else *may* work and feel the need to ram their opinion down your throat.

TBH I find this issue in real life as well as online and find that the horsey world is fine as long as you are conforming to the norm but the moment that you step outside of that then beware!

I think the problem is that one persons normal is another's odd...especially where horses are concerned!

I think the problem is we live in a NOA's, and the horse world has an abundance of them, heads so far up their own backsides you can't tell what they are saying it's so muffled.......

I'm pretty gobby in real life too Quirky:p:D

:D Because I thought of you when I read the post this is answering! I'm probably of the same stamp too!

Thankfully, it doesn't really happen (if at all actually) on this forum. People usually mistake bullying or ganging up, with like minded people having an opposite view from another poster.

Most of the posters who post on HHO are intelligent enough to think for themselves. It's just the odd one or two who shout bully - or accuse posters of going around in gangs - and there's usually a reason for that (because they're a shilling short of a pound....)

I'm another shilling short of a pound too then, I think there is a fair bit of ganging up on here. You get posts where many people have the same opinions, then you get those that have the same opinion and start laughing together at the OP or constantly snipeing.. I never understand why people can't let things drop - say your opinion and if they don't take your advice, so what?

Ok but to play devils advocate here my horses are at home I have two grooms who cover seven days a week I don't work what's is the issue with that ?
I can travel with my husband when I chose go away for the day when I chose lucky yes definatly more money than sense why ?
I have oodles of time to spend with my horses if I only ride them one day and go and meet a friend what's the problem.

Totally jealous!

Thats different. Your horses are at home and you can see them when you want as they are there. I know people who rarely ever even see their horses yet they are quite happy to tell everyone about how they own a horse when, in truth, the horses probably doesnt even know who they are. This is what i mean, you say if you ride one day then meet a friend then whats the problem but that is not that you NEVER see then or ever have anything to do with them.

Doesn't matter if their owners see them at all if the horses are properly looked after. Its the ones that aren't seen and aren't on livery that are likely to suffer.

I've learned a lot on here - one of the largest things that I've learned is who I respect, from a couple of years of hearing their opinions. I've also learned to ignore advice that isn't useful! I have had horses for about 30 years, worked with them etc, so have a reasonable amount of general knowledge re horses, but there are people on here that have had experiences with horses that I've been lucky not to (colic for example) so I learn from their posts. People have discussed things that I'd not even heard of. I also really enjoy watching major equine events while being online, as there are some "in the know" people on here that give a backstage view quite often..

The forum is great for entertainment and picking through for information, but you have to be confident enough to leave some things.
