When i see a thread on here with a 'what do you do?' theme to them then i would gladly give someone my thought on what i would do, as i really appreciate it when people give me advice. Why do some people insist that their way is correct & the only way to do things, then slag you off for using a different method???:confused::confused:

I wouldn't dream of telling people how they should be doing their horses when they've only asked for a general concensus (sp??!)! I don't know their horse or themselves so i'm certainly not going to bitch at people who don't do things my way. I know my pony & what works for him!

This is not based on any thread i have started, people have been very kind to me, just a general moan & rant from what i read!!

Because when you get 5 horsepeople in a room, you will inevitably get seven opinions and a blazing row!

I have been researching various professional dog training bodies recently and can confirm that the same applies to dog people:rolleyes:

You can only have a general concensus if there are differing opinions......;)

agree with spudlet - but I loved learning about how different cultures interact with their horses, have some good books and dvd documetaries. I watch some of the stuff and don't agree with it, but it is their culture, the way their people have done things for probably hundreds of years.

The horses always look good, well fed and cared for as best they can (and these people often go without food or things to look after their horses).

We just come from different walks of life and just because you do something one way does not make it right, or wrong, it is just the way you learned to do it.

Jeeve you are clearly open minded. I feel the same way and about religion - imo noone can slate anothers belief just because it isn't for them!

I think most people are happy to live and let live, providing the methods are not cruel and 'abusive'
The issues then lie with the individuals' versions of abuse/cruelty. Xx

I just don't get it???!! Yes we all have opinions & of course they are going to differ, but why be horrible??:confused:

Must be that some people are just that kind of person!!

:):) I Like this!

This kind of forum wouldn't exist if not for all the people who think they're the dog's cajones when it comes to animal training. Just see it for what it is and play along ;) If you want some real action mention Parelli!

Funny you should say that, after getting wound up yesterday by ppl knowing everything and judging obviously lovely ppl, I was gonna start a thread saying, would you really be so opinionated, judgemental and cruel face to face in real life? But couldn't be bothered with more arguements and to be quite honest they probably are old nags in real life too.. haha!!

I am with you, just be nice and try to be constructive, don't instantly blame the poor person for being a failure!!

Well said!!:D:D

HAvent heard the arguements about parelli?? haha but find it the most boring ever program to watch and he gets aggressive with his students.......

(hows that?) lol

I love clive anderson, is that his name?? Cowboy, now he makes me laughhhh so much and isn't airy fairy!

Because riding is like religion. :)

Some people just like to be contrary, especially if they can do it from behind the safety of their computer and don't actually have to prove they can do better.

My experience is generally the really rough stuff comes from ignorance/limited experience. They either don't really understand the situation or they've had a negative experience and extrapolate it to the whole, like people do with crime, race etc. Some of the most open minded, non-confrontational horsemen I've met are the most successful in their fields - they are confident in their own system so they don't see any need to get excited about how other people do things.

Eh, there are lots of ways to be right with horses. :) I distrust anyone's opinion who doesn't acknowledge that, even if they don't always agree.

Quite right!! I see some ponies kept in lower grade accomodation, ponies are scruffy, but well loved, vet called out the min a problem etc etc, ppl would turn their nose up!

You're certainly on the right lines but I'm sorry to say that being aggressive with his students may count as entertainment.
However the fairy-like reference is a new one and may have mileage/get the thread pulled early:eek:

Absolutely, but I don't think the OP is talking about people with different views per se, but the way they put their POV forward - as if anyone who doesn't do it their way is being cruel to their horse and/or making their horse unhappy.

I have been a member of this forum for a long long time, but hardly post because I really can't be bothered with some of the nastiness and also very stupid replies that you get. I know which posters make sense and tend to ignore the ones with whom I never agree.

99.9% of questions on this forum can be answered by 'call your vet' or 'book some lessons' (or a combination of both). Aside from that there are a handful of dealers/trainers who know their stuff and are always a pleasure to read.
You will always get the ones who just like the sound of their own keyboard and precis stuff they have heard or get from Google;)

Sometimes I think you'll find you're airing thoughts rather than actually asking for advice as such. It is nice to get a different perspective sometimes, but you're not always prepared for what that perspective might be. I think everyone is capable of making valid points even if it wildly differs from your own. Unless it's obviously crock then maybe the person receiving the said opnion is too close minded?

Course, if your way is the right way, don't ask! Also agree with the above comment from Fellewell.

No, I don't mean people disagreeing, that's a certainty. I mean the way people say things. In a bitchy, horrible way that has no purpose whatsoever!
