The real A&E or helicopter heroes there is always someone who has fallen off their horse, or has been attacked by their horse or has been kicked by someone else's horse?!

Does anyone else find this odd? Or am I just assuming that the majority of people that get injured through horses "walk through the pain" ?

Its always the bad falls too - makes you realise just how risky riding really is!!
But the oddest one was the one where 2 people where cantering up a corn field, Horse A kicked out and caught rider B who was on her horse, looked a bit sore from outside of jodphurs, when air ambulance arrived (and doctor had lifted B from her horse!) took joddys off and...

partial amputation of knee

Then they showed her 3 weeks later after surgery to clean etc.

And she was about to rider her horse - tough or just a normal horsey person?

I was off work a couple of weeks ago with flu and watched Helicopter Heroes every day; i couldn't believe how many horse related incidents there were. One poor girl even got rescued twice and the pilot recognised her....he was really negative about riding. I support the air ambulance, you never know when you might need them........

Oh lordy!!!!!!!! That must have been horrendous! You would never have thought that would happen!!

I have just had a bad break through a youngster rearing over ontop of me! When I was in hospital, at one point, there were 6 of us on the ward, 3 of us were to do with horse accidents LMAOOOOO! A nurse came up to me and said 'horse related?', I said 'yeah, how did you know?', she said 'you look the type!!!!'

I work in an A & E department and there are a few yards nearby so we get quite a few horse related accidents in. Unfortunately I end up in a full blown discussion about saddles etc instead of focussing on my job lol

Ah thanks! I broke my talus into 4 pieces and my fibula decided to snap and come out of the skin bleugggghhh! I had screws, wire and a plate! Although my plate came out after only 9.5 weeks because my main wound split open and you could see all of the metal work inside!! bleugggghhhhhh! I don't 'do' gross stuff!!!

Did it 16 weeks today! Finally given the go ahead this week to start partial weight bearing! The OH has had to look after my horses for me!

Apparently more horse riders killed than drug addicts per year.

Scarey or what.

Just don't tell the OH! Been trying for 8 years to convince him horses are safer then motorbikes!

Yes, I've noticed that too.
I have been to A&E with horse related injuries and sometimes got a very bad attitude - because it was horse incurred. I have also been on the ortho ward a lot, and every time there was someone with bad injuries incurred while riding.

Lauracross, that looks horrendous, i thought i had bad luck when i broke my leg clipping and was non-weightbearing for 12 weeks............

A friend had a fall and fractured a vertebrae in her neck. she was lucky she made a full recovery but spent 2 months flat on her back in a spinal ward. Whilst there she was told that horse and motor bike accidents were about equal for spinal injuries and occurred more often than any other sort

It's my first ever break **touch wood**!! I did a proper job of it too, so technically that should eliminate me from any future accidents **touch wood** lol!

What part of your leg did you break?? Did the horse kick you?? Not something you would expect to happen whilst clipping eh!!!
