The evening I watch an episode of Doctor Who about people being sucked into the ground, I go up to the yard and find the field automatic trough is leaking over the field and I need to turn the stopcock off... The stopcock being located 3 feet under ground, down a narrow pit... In the darkest part of my field... The one day I forget to take a torch :o

I'm not normally one for being paranoid, but lying face down in the mud, with one arm down a hole as far as my shoulder, in the pitch black, on my own, I did feel somewhat exposed :o


Totally pointless post, clearly :D
 
Yep, and you'll have to put your arm back down that hole to turn the water on again when it's fixed.......that's when you've forgotten all about Dr Who.....but that's when the ground will get you - when you're least expecting it!!!
 
I fixed it in the dark and put it back on too. I was feeling really brave :o I also got some nocturnal fencing done. I'm feeling very productive this evening :D
 
I won't go to the yard on my own in the dark so you're braver than me! (not difficult, I am terrified of the dark. What a baby!)
 
Anyway, how long exactly are your arms? Cos I'm sitting here looking at mine and wondering if I'm challenged in the arm length department or whether you're an orangutan. I don't think I could reach 3 feet down a hole....

And she has disgustingly long legs. It's sickening to a short arse like me!
 
Hollyhocks, I may be exaggerating. I'm 5'8 and my arms are reasonably in proportion to my body, so maybe 2ft6 would be more accurate? :p Unless I'm actually an orangutan :o

Jess, bless you! I'd never cope if I couldn't go up in the dark, I love the dark, but it can be a little creepy now I don't have my guard dog :( However, since I'm not a morning person, I have to deal with the night...
 
"Nocturnal fencing"!!!

I think I might just have found a new hobby, is it anything similar to cross-country dancing, or under-water walking, 2 hobbies which I spend quite a lot of my time doing already? I do like the sound of it!
 
Nocturnal fencing is an up and coming sport - quite competitive in its own right. At the highest levels, at which I compete, you are expected to fully double fence a field and electrify the fencing in the pitch black without getting stuck in the mud or loosing any footwear to it. Additional obstacles may be introduced, such as badgers running across the field to give you a heart attack, or nosy yearlings trying to prevent you from accomplishing your task.

It's not for the faint hearted, but don't let that put you off :D
 
Thank goodness for that, we sometimes have to wear them for the cross country dancing, if it turns into a joint session of CCD and underwater walking. :D
 
well it could become necessary I suppose, if you took up a triatholon of nocturnal fencing, CCD and underwater walking :D

I don't think I've often been described as faint-hearted but I am disappointed.

I was thinking more of the '3 Muskateers' kind of fencing. Is it not possible to do that nocturnally?

Although I do quite fancy the triathlon.
 
Yes, quite.

I personally prefer mounted nocturnal fencing of that nature though. I'm not quick enough on my feet to be competitive otherwise!
 
absolutely, both of mine are fencing trained, any excuse to wave a sword around :D

I reckon we might have a shot at the GB Champs too ;)
 
I've been pushing for its incusion, but even if they won't accept it, we could just rock up and do some in the middle of the dressage or something and demand medals for the winners anyway?
 
excellent idea - I could do with a little supplementary income. And of course, if there's any civil unrest we could help out the police for a similar fee. Of failing that, hold up rich tourists in dark alleyways, highwayman style :D

Pearlsasingers mare is no good as the getaway vehicle, my mare says she is the slowest animal on four legs, as she is fed up having to wait for her, so it had better be disabled/old rich tourists you hold up! :D :D
 
haha, ok that's good for me - if the police chase us, we've got more chance of outrunning her mare and getting away :D
 
Fabulous photo!

We'd make a good pair - although my brick-y-k-w is bay. I think she'd be brilliant at dealing with civil unrest, especially if some-one could be prevailed upon to play 'The Charge of the Valkiries'. She's Westphalian.
