So I got my horse in today - brushed off his front legs and noticed both front chestnuts had puss coming out - quite a bit - he has also been fairly lethargic of late - his temperature is 39.5. I am gonna call the vet tomorrow but just wondered if anyone had ever seen that before?

No.

And personally with a temperature of 39.5 within pus coming out the chestnuts, I'd be at least ringing the vet tonight!

nope never seen that before or heard of it either.

agree with above and call the vet tonight, high temp, lethargic and pus coming from the chestnuts would make me pay for an out of hours call.

hope all is ok though and easily sorted.

Ok thanks guys - i just called them they said the possibilities are an infection which will need antibiotics or otherwise they will need to cancel out that its auto-immune (eek I know a horse with that and its not good!) But they said if he is eating and not lame or displaying anything else (which he isnt) they see no need to send a vet tonight but will get someone out tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed x

Hey thanks for asking - yes vet has seen him he has had an injection of antibiotics incase of infection and has taken blood and swabs so we have to wait and see the results - blood will be back tomorrow and swabs monday - he said he cant possibly give a diagnosis at the mo but he seems to have a pamphigus reaction (that could be spelt totally wrong but sounded like that) If it is something connected with autoimmune he said he will have to have biopsy next but he said its a good sign nothing is wrong with the coronary bands so fingers tightly crossed x
