Why is your horse named it is?

I was just wondering if your horse's name had some interesting, funny or bizarre story behind it as why it has inquired their name.

I'll start off. I bought my horse, Frenchie from a dealer who claimed that he was a french warmblood hence his name. When, I saw the passport it was issued by the horse agency!

Luckily, the dealer's young daughter had been naming the previous new stock and had decided to name them after brands of toothpaste. I am so relieved that I didn't have to shout "Colgate" or "Aquafresh" to get my horse in!

No real funny stories.

Lady Lion is nick named Lady Bug or bug. XC Colurs are now red with black spots.

Moorbridge Sundance came with that name and was stable named Sunny, thought that was common (sorry to all the Sunny owners) So we named him Solar.

My pony is called Mountain City, which I though was quite odd...

I tracked down who bought him as a 4yr old (hers now 20) and she chose him from a herd on a mountain behind Belfast :') Made me like his name now!

I have 12 horses ,My CB stallion is Boo more because you say Boo to him and he hides behind me-- reg name is Wyevale Boomerang . Gynty, Id x cob (reg name- after the goldrush)who gets called Gynty git as she is always up to no good, pokes her nose in everything.we have a huge primitive rising mare--no reg name but I call her Cherry Bomb one because of her lovely mahogany red colour and two because she explodes like a bomb.
my Lipizzaner is named Bammorith Spectacular , we stable named her Princess but she has, since we had her at 6 months --she is now 7 y we always call her Lippy de do dah. the rest have variations on their registered names

Obie never had a name, the dealer I bought him off called him 'The 4 year old'.
His registered name is: "Stonehaven's Grey Clover", and I didn't want him to be Stoney, Haven, Grey or Clover so I wanted an Egyptian name (don't ask why). 'Oba' is Egyptian for King (my surname) and I kind of changed it to Obie from Obi Wan Kanobi from Star Wars!

I named my horse Hullabaloo because every time I asked him to do something there was a terrible hullabaloo

Beau Regard is named after a duck pond, long story but is in Sark in the channel islands and is also the tenement name of my favourite bit of the island.

Iceni Rogue is named after the Iceni as in Boudicca, my mom is from that neck of the woods and I was reading a book about the Iceni at the time, and Rogue because she was soo vile as a baby. (and a bit because it starts with R like Regard!)

Lottie was called Lottie when I bought her, previous owner bought 2 un named horses. her daughter named them Charlie and Lottie. It was like she could only think of the name Charlotte and just made them share it!! Called her Rhythm and Blues for posh name as I wanted a name to go with the fact she is roan, she's a bay roan not a blue but still!!

Saffron because she is the same colour as the spice but her show name is Que Sera Sera because believe me with her whatever will be will be

Stable name Meg, because her mum was Gem... show name Fools Edition, because she was born April 1st and her sire is Type Editon.
Stable name Penny, because thats what she came with, show name Fools Gold, because she was born April 1st and born chestnut, turning grey we think!

Not really... My friend (Asbo from on here) and I were discussing names for her and Holly was the first name that came to both our heads... I like it... its short, sweet, she is all my christmases come at once and its well suited to the precious little princess that she is (she was previously called Monica by my yard whom I bought her from - previous to that she was Ebony (bay mare ???) ) Her registered name is Carlys Girl

Charlie was unnamed when I bought him, he came from an Irish Dealer and they had called him "the Charlie Pony" when they referred to him lol! This was because his dad was a stallion called Go Charlie Go. It seemed to suit him, and so it stuck.

Una came as Una, she is a friesian and they are named with a certain letter for the year they are born, I guess Una was born in the "U" year. Its a bit of an odd name, and not what most people would think of a horse name. I tried out some different ones for her to see if they'd stick, but they didnt. I quite like it now, its unusual and a bit exotic. Her reg name is just Una B (hence my username), the B was added as its the first letter of my surname, apparently thats how they do it when they have several horses to register with the same name.

I registered the name of my baby, Marinita Emerald Star, Marinita being my kennel name, Emerald cos I bought her from Ireland and Star because she IS one! Her stable name of Emma came from the Emerald.

Hope and Glory, well, they came as an un-named pair and I wanted something a bit British for them.

Juno was unnamed, wife of Zeus.

My mare is called Wispa Gold...she is chocolate dun so I named her after a chocolate bar!

We had a pony called Wolferlow Montana, stable name Sky. She is a morgan cross welsh B and all the foals out of the stallion were named after American states as he was american. The owners of the stallion actually named her Sky because they said Montana was the Sky state of America.

Fyn is so named as he is a dapple grey and fyn means white fire in irish and his show name is Flying Fynlay which was decided when he flew over a barbed wire fence and then a 5 bar gate

I called my foal Harold after my late grandfather I got my horsey genes from him, he paid for me to have lessons when I was young and he often used to come to watch me at shows. Harold was born the day before what would have been my grandfather's 85th birthday

Well, my cob is called Trampas, and he came from Ireland with that name.
My mum's theory is that he is called Trampas, because the actor who played the part of Trampas in "The Virginian" had a large nose. like trampas.

I think the tv character had a bit of a cheeky streak too, which my boy definitely has!

Bilto, he was already named when my mum bought him at 4 years old (he is nearly 17 now)
The Bilto used to be the name of a racing program on the French tv (not sure if it still does exist though)

Just bought a 2yr old Welsh sec D to keep our weanling company and he was called Noel, hate that name and as he is a little Gypo pony we have changed his name to 30 bob and a battery, 30 for short!!

We only had to pay 30 bob for him too, bargain

Phoebe is registered as Phoebe Arazina - her grandfather is Arazi, hence the Arazina

Nice breeding. Forget Arazi (for a minute, even if he is by Carmargue, and goes back to Bask - I have a Bask grand-daughter)

She has Holly Blue in there! Simply one of THE most beautiful mares ever.

Molly because when we got her she was neglected and skinny and sad so we had to "get the jolly back in Molly"

My mare Lily was already named and I can only assume whoever chose that name was being ironic as lilys are small white and delicate and she is the total opposite, huge black and clumsy! But in a strange way it really does suit her, our farrier calls her Lilo Lil and that's probably more apt!

Hurley was unnamed and we chose it because he is so like Hurley from Lost. He even looks like him! Chunky, long hair, dopey looking, he's a bit dim but laid back (mostly!) and loveable.
