1 of our ex-racers posh name is Teratai (Indonesian Water Lilly) she was bred by HRH Sultan Ahmed Shah and he names all of his favourite fillys after his favourite flowers.

Other ex-racer's name is Foutel, no idea why he was called that but it was gradually shortened to Tel and then just T....he's now commonly know as Mr T, because he's and A Team horse!

Dexter is called Dexter because I liked it and I didn't want to be shouting Orbit across the field :D Hes registered as Moons Orbit and he is my mares, Moons foal, although confusingly, I didn't breed him. Moomin is technically called Moon, but Moomin just suits her better.

Seven was unnamed and remained unnamed for about 3 weeks while I dithered and referred to him as ginormafoal. A friend came to see him and pointed out his blaze is the shape of a Seven, and between me and my sister we have seven horses, so Seven seemed apt and just kinda stuck. His registered name is Seven Deadly Gins as I finally decided to buy him after quite alot of gin :D

Go with the Flow because she is so laid back,

Highland Flyer of Gunton park because she is from the Gunton stud so they all have that plus shes half Highland and is a flyer.

i once had a pony called Storyteller and his sire was called Gossip column so they all had names that link.

My mini is called Barkwith little pearl ,as she was born in Barkwith and her sister was little Rose.

My TB racing name is Jack Smiles so it just made sense to have a yard name as 'Jack'

My Gypsy Vanner x is called Glynarlyn Glory, but i didnt really like glory as a name. He' a Skewbald, so we decided his yard name is 'Marble.' This is because he apparently looks like Marble chocolate that was out years ago. Its cute and it suits him anyway :)

Mine's stable name is Cash (he's got a posh racing name too)- from what I understand, the person who his previous owner bought him from was a lady who basically bought 3 or 4 racehorses at a time straight from the stables, turned them out for six months, before re backing and selling on, as a way to fund her eventing. She tried to give each 'lot' of racers names which sort of went together- and the little group mine was in were named Cash, Mortgage and Isa :D :D Owner liked Cash and Mortgage equally, and so decided to go for Cash as it's a slightly less silly name to be shouting across the field :D

Bruvey...I spell it Bruvvie though...as thought he might get called Broovy by people as in groovy. I'm convinced it's a name that came about as something being misheard between 2 people or the only explanation is that he was a Bruv (slang for Bruvva/brother...) and then someone put a y on the end to make the name more appealing it got extended to that...who knows. For some reason though it seems to suit him but takes some repeating to people when they first hear it!

My horse's formal name is Barney's Dancer. I presume she got the Dancer because like every TB in the world evvvvarrr she is related to Northern Dancer and Native Dancer, as for the Barney's part God knows, perhaps it's a significant name to the people who owned her.

The dealer called her Bella, this was in 2007, perhaps he was cashing in on the zeitgeist around the Twilight books and (as it was then) the hype leading up to the release of the 1st film? Or maybe he thought she was pretty. Who knows? We never changed it because we thought it suited her

We've added a couple of nicknames though, my friend took her out on a hack where she was horrid and called her Bellzilla, we've got another friend that calls her Hells Bells!

I named one of my boys Orion as he looks like an amazing horse I used to ride called Orion, its also names after a constillation of stars cos my name means star. My other horse is called Corona as again it is a constellation of stars ( Oh and a fizzy beer drink and he's a bit like that.

He's not mine, but a RS horse and he's called Guinness (Connemara cross as far as I know). I couldn't believe it when I saw him - he's a buckskin-skewbald, so I definitely though he was more a Bailey's Irish Cream! I'd expected to be given a piebald with a name like that! (They do seem to have a thing about alcohol-related names at the yard however, with Bailey, Guinness, Drambruie, and Tia [Maria] amongst others.

Anyhow, it soon became obvious to me why he's Guinness: because he's Irish, he's stout, and while he's an acquired taste he's widely loved!

What other name themes do people have? We also seem to have a few space related neddies on the yard, with Galaxy and Astro!

My Cleveland Bay Mare - was named by some good family friends.

Harrington Lucky Lady.
As she was the last foal to be born of a Lovely Cleveland Bay Stallion - whos previous foals had mostly been huge problems to deliver and unfortunatley they had lost a few foals and mares to His progeny so far.

Lady - as she is a right stubborn so and so sometimes!!! :p

Harrington Cheeky Girl
As she was out of a stallion called Cheeky Chappy.

Inkstack Imperial = Inkstack is the stud, Imperial as that year all the foals' names began with an I and he was the first so the king. He's black so his stable name is Inky (or Impy when he's being bad)

Colourville Sundae = Colourville is the stud, no idea about the Sundae part but I love icecream so her stable name in Sundae or Sunny

I guess he was named Kalief as he is an Anglo Arab. I wasn't sure if I liked it at first but I now love it, it suits him so well.

It is a really weird name to call a horse as its origins seem to be in Islam and the caliph was often known as Amir al-Mu'minin (أمير المؤمنين) "Commander of the Believers" (according to Wikipedia ;) !).

Also the Burj Khalifa in Dubai is the tallest man made building ever and boy I bet my ex hates looking at that as much as he did my horse! snigger! :D

Hi nicknames are Funny Face mainly but my mum likes to call him FiFi which is a bit disturbing!

Lucy was called Lucy when i bought her but she didn't have a posh name so I called her Crystal Rosette. Because she was a prity as a crystal and was going to win loads of Rosettes. ( I know I know but i was 14 at the time :p ;) :D :D )

Herbie is called Herbie forest fox. I'm assuming it's something to do with his dad who was called sturtmoor arctic fox. I call him horrid. Because he is. ;) :D :D

I don't know why Tiptoe Merryn is called Merryn. Tiptoe is the stud he was from. I call him Slimfast as he weighed 469kgs when he came to me and in just a few weeks he lost loads of weight and looked so much better. :)

We have Taffy a welsh pony. He didn't have a show name when we got him but he arrived whilst we were on holiday and when we got back from a late night flight, we went up to the yard to see him in the middle of the night, hence his show name "midnight magic"

Donald came with his name but suits his. He gets called dappy Donald a lot

Guinness is black and his mum was called "mill guineas". He also gets called guinea pig as he's such a plonker sometimes!

We had a mare called Yoko as well as she had a really long, dead straight black mane.

Archie was called Andy when i got him which I felt was too popular a name for humans . I needed something similar enough for him to answer to it but different enough not to be naff so ended upwith Archie. There seems to be loads of little boys named Archie now though so that backfired a bit!
Monty's short for his show name Montoya Mist, but that's way too girly for a 17hh ISH so we don't use it unless we really have to - basically only when his passport is required. Otherwise he's just entered as Monty.

Fyn is so named as he is a dapple grey and fyn means white fire in irish and his show name is Flying Fynlay which was decided when he flew over a barbed wire fence and then a 5 bar gate :)

Gosh, I really like your horse's name!
I've got an irish grey mare, she was un-named when she came from the dealer. I wanted an Irish name for her and chose Aisling (pronounced Ashlene). Apparently it means 'dream' in Irish, so if she ever went to shows her show name would be Irish Dream.

Both mine already had their names, Captain is fine, if a bit well used, but Fany? I wanted to change it but Elizabeth would not, she thinks it is unlucky. So we have the world's worse named horse, and the butt of many awful jokes by my farrier and YO's OH.

Mine is named Zorro. He was named it by a previous owner as 'he's a lover, not a fighter'! ...Yeh when it comes to other horses maybe but he's definately likes a good argument with me out of the field!
