why on earth do people like thoroughbreds

Wow! I LOVE this thread! I mean come on! TB's being useful? Elegant? (Well ok some are ugly buggers but so is gembo for having a name like that)

See! They can even do ballet!

P.S. Neither horse nor rider were seriously hurt in the production of this image!

:D It was a very good guide too, as the saying goes "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink":D

PS. Love Andy, hope you don't mind me saying how lovely it is to see photos of the one and only Koko again.

Such a good saying as well. Luckily this troll picked up on a few hints but missed out on quite a bit. She still has a lot to learn. :)

Thank you, I thought as its the anniversary soon it would be nice to have him back in my siggy. Hopefully he will stay this time if I don't get button pushed! :p

I know this poster only started the thread as joke, but I happen to have the exception to her/his rule. She is the best thing since sliced bread, honest as the day is long & I dont regret for one minute buying her.

Hi

I have a 16.1 hh TB ex racer who has a lovely nature not malisious at all, he just has some issues.

He was raced for 8 yrs. The previous owner got him straight from racing and rehabilitated him over the 3 years she had him, she did show jumping, xc, dressage and some hunting,

Now as far as I know she did everything in the stable, groomed tacked up etc.

I was unaware of this when I first got him and tried tying up outside like you would do with any other horse,,, he freaked out, hates the hosepipe, hates his nose being touched but can clean eyes and ears no problem.

I think he has issues from his racing days or previous owner and maybe a bit of my handling, i have been very soft with him but now is being more firm with him.

Overall i love thoroughbreds as Ive rode lots of different types everyone is different just like humans id prefer a tb to a ploddy cob imo

Most of the time people are just scared of them

There is one big advantage that you have all forgot. You can leave your tb(I have one so dont jump on me) in front paddock all night and still find it there in morning when all the coloured cobs have disappeared.:pIf anyone ever took mine she would be brought straight back poor mite had 5 homes in two years .:D

i know PSG Dressage Thoroughbred, ex racer, called Fantastic Diamond.
he beat the s**t out of warmbloods with huge bloodlines under this amazing rider Louise Ostergaard, with scores like 78% and i think his top score was 81%.
he was then sold to an amateur who has been competing him, though at a totally different level although they are still performing.

:) although personally, i'm a WB person ;P

Yawn Yawn Yawn. Night all. This is getting boring now.off to bed. Think some people need to take a trip down the river to have a cuppa tea and a catch up with some of the other trolls lurking under bridges.

Think We should all take it in turns in pretending to be trolls to show them how its really done. Instead of these recent pathetic attempts. can you tell its the school holidays?

horses are horses. We all have our favourite types of them and why make a post of something so ridiculous? It's abit obvious people are going to have different opinions :D

Gembo needs to visit New Zealand or Australia where the TB is the most used horse for any type of riding.

I love them for their Athletiscism, warped sense of humour, courage, trainability, they love life, a pretty have lovely paces, have strength & stamina and don't grow hairy coats like Shetlands - at least I can tell which end is which! very important when you are elderly and you've left your glasses at home!

The majority of the highly successful New Zealand Eventing teams are ex TB race horses

All my horses at the riding school were TB's all easy to work with calm & sensible. None of them skinny. Maybe Gembo you have only seen them racing fit where they are the equine equivalent of a lean mean racing machine.

Maybe Gembo has such a thing about them as she secretely wants to have the physique and beauty of a tb rather than that of a cob?!? I mean we all know trolls are ugly little beggers at the best of times.

Gembo, may I make a suggestion... go onto the Badminton runners list for the weekend and the breeds of horses competing then come back and tell everyone how TBs are 'good for nothings'!!

Or alternatively go take a look at PrincessSparkles TB, certainly decent quality and ridden very well :D

not going to lie my tb can be silly but never bad! also... he is fat so there... 4 people have mistaken him for a warmblood... his passport must lie i think ; ) anyway rubbish trolling come on people this one sucks!

do we get a handle with this thread so we can keep winding people up!!! come on!!!!!!!!!! you trolls are getting a great feed off this one!!! im not even going to describe my TB as I may upset the trolls on here! :-)

please dont pander to gimpbo we all know our tb's. If gimpbo was telling the truth, we would see pictures to back up 'its' achevements. It is probaly some old washer women bored with eastenders and has to create some other type of 'drama' in its sad little life. Bore off gimpbo and go ride your shitland ;-)

That is why I love TB's. At the time that mare I was riding had a slipped disk in her back and she still tried despite having been in pain for years.
Current one is half TB :p

Why, when defending TB's, do people slate cobs to back up their argument? doesn't that make you as bad as Gambon?

I don't mind either breed but i'll stick with my arab, they're not crazy at all are they? ;) B)

I have to say I have nout against cobs, I like a nice smart looking show cob. When I go horse hunting I choose whatever horse suits me ability wise. i wouldn't be put off my breed in the slightest :) Even if it did turn out to be a cob ;)

If the roads and tracks with steeple chase were reintroduced to the 3DE format i am sure TB's would make up most of the field.

You still see TB's competing at GP level in Showjumping but they do not have a natural tendancy to collection. It is also noteworthy that without the TB the warmblood would not exist.

Anyone who shows snobbery about a certain breed is not a horse lover.

I don't think that really slate cobs as such, they are just used as an example as they the total opposite end of the spectrum from TB's. Hairy, chunky, comfey cob vs trimmed, dainty and sometimes more of a stool than an armchair ride.

I don't mind cobs, if one came along that had a good sense of humour and was fun to ride then it could have a place in my stable - oh and it must have a pretty head! If I have to look at a horse over the stable door everyday it must have a pretty head!

what a lovely thing to say, thank you : proudhorsemother :

i would be careful not to tar all TB's with the same brush as there are SO many variations on type. I wouldnt go as far as to say mine is typical of the breed but he is short coupled, uphill, collects easily , has EXCELLENT feet, is tough, and is very very level headed-he cant be the only one like that!
he's 6yo, and schooling baby PSG stuff like its a walk leg yield, nuff said!!!

What a pointless thread to be honest. Personally i think everyone on here would have a soft spot for them. They are smart, fun, beautiful, exciting, and intelligent. I agree with what someone else said, people only dont like them because they cant handle them. They are not suitable for everyone because of their nature a lot of the time. They can be too much for someone to handle. But i do love them.
