Hi more a rant but any advice welcome .

Why do people feel it’s okay to waste your time when selling things i don’t mean big things ie. horses . I mean tack etc . I have a lot of items for sale through both Facebook, eBay and other places .

I have had one person with a rug arrange to collect twice and not show . Then they ask me to post gave them a quote sent several messages to ask them to pay they said they would never have . Been 2 weeks since they first enquired.

Then on eBay I get asked 100 million question which is fine if your actually interacted in buying but if your not don’t ask . One I have been dealing with recently I have a showing bridle for sale great quality worth About £100 more than what I have it on for . The next closest second hand is £30 more . This person originally asked me what range it was from . I said I can’t remember as it was brought 6 years ago but lightly used for shows only and stored in a bag since. She then said send me the brand stamp on it . I replied with it’s a showing bridle and the manufacturer at the time did not mark the showing range . She then said it was a fake . I replied with I have a few other traditional show bridle by the same manufacturer all around 6-10 years old and they don’t have a stamp. And that I brought it from the manufacture from HOYS in 2014/15 . She told me to shower her the receipt. I said I don’t have it was that long ago . She said either I let her have it for £10 so £40 less than asking price or she’s reporting me to eBay !

Is it even worth selling stuff when you get pennies for the hassle ?

I use eBay to feel various bits and pieces, and I've never had a problem with a buyer. I make sure I've got pictures of anything someone might want to see, and fill up the description with all relevant information. So there's nothing left to ask me.

Then again, I rarely sell horse stuff, maybe it's just equestrians that are a pain to deal with?

Rug: you have indulged this person. Deal ends on one no show.

Bridle: I'd remove the listing asap. If you choose to relist say something like 'I bought several bridles from xxx saddlery at HOYS 2014/5 but please note that the manufacturer did not brand them.' Or to be even safer say something like 'thought to be ...' If you can't prove the brand then you're on dodgy ground with eBay.

I would agree but just “sold” two pairs of shoes to find eBay has removed them due to being a fake bid ?

This is why I have a tack room full of stuff I could sell but just cannot be bothered with the hassle!

Haha I wish but I currently feel a garage full of horse stuff that won’t be used is pointless when my niece is in desperate need of a custom made saddle as she is disabled and losing the use of her legs . She’s really struggling to ride but she can’t afford the £2,500 but she doesn’t want to stop riding . I can’t afford to give her the money unless we get rid of some horse tack

I will consider This I think she only done it hoping I would let her have a quality bridle for £10 . I don’t know many showing bridles with a manufacturers mark on .

Tell me about it! We are semi retired antique dealers and have a website selling area and I use ebay some times. The amount of time wasters now a days is ridiculous. I blame the stupid antiques TV prorammes. However, some years ago I bought all the residue from a closing down tack shop and sold much of it on ebay and had lots of nice surprises and made some friends as well.

Facebook as a platform has a user base of the not so bright, so the % of idiots is much higher if you are trying to sell something.

I still favour eBay and will use very specific search words when looking for something so that it only brings up those that have detailed descriptions which are typically listed by those who know what they are talking about.

When selling I list my price as ”firm” or use the buy it now function on eBay.

On Facebook I might have once or twice replied publicly to a stupid comment in a polite but pointed manner to make sure no more stupid comments or questions turned up.

I had a stunning show saddle for sale that was a bargain if show saddles are your thing. Stupid offer of half price. I replied “if your budget is in this range there are some plastic mass produced saddles in the Wintec range available but may not be as suitable for the show ring ”. Ie: eeeef off and quit wasting my time.

One woman rang me to say she was just leaving home (20 minutes away) to collect a pair of boots from me in October 2020. She's still not got here, despite texting half an hour later to say she was 5 minutes away but held up because something or other.... I wonder if I should have contacted missing persons??

I pretty much dont bother trying to sell anything nowadays, its just not worth the hassle. I found with ebay you have to write a very exacting and direct description to avoid ANY confusion. This covers any discrepancies or chancers who didnt understand the listing!

FB ... drives me insane, i cannot bear trying to sell stuff on there! I would rather it all go to charity.

You don't want to hear this, but people don't mess about if the price is right. They buy quickly, since they know someone else will get it if they delay.

Questions, offers etc are buyers who are potentially interested in the item. If they then drop you, it's because you haven't cut a deal, and they are content to look elsewhere.

I got that fed up I put everything in the car and took it to world horse welfare for their tack shop.
Didn't make any money but felt virtuous ?

I usually do but my niece really really needs This saddle or she won’t be able to ride anymore ?

Yes send to your local horse charity preferably your small independent one as the big ones get tonnes of tack.
Gave up selling small items years ago. I just ask around friends and send things to my local horse sanctuary so they can use or sell.

As mentioned above I often do but right now my niece is need of the custom made saddle due to her disability or she not going to able to ride anymore . I am doing my best to help her keep riding

I list things on ebay. I clean them well first, take really good clear photos showing condition in full. I detail the make, model, all particulars, any issues, what the maker says about the product.
I offer collect / international post via ebay distribution centre / postage - tracked, insured and signed for. I set a reasonable but optimistic buy it now price. And I wait.

I have found this far the easiest way to sell anything. Might take a week to 3 months to sell, but most things sell. If they dont sell, I reduce by £5 and wait.

I generally need to sell things that are not needed anymore to fund buying more things!!!

That’s good I do wonder if it’s the wrong time to close to Christmas maybe .

haha I should remember that in future about the not so bright user base . I have used buy it now but still get loads of stupid offers . Yes I know what you mean like I find showing stuff is either easy to sell to friends from showing or they don’t sell at all .

Switch allow offers off on ebay. If you have it on, it implies you are open to offers. I never leave it on.

I think they still do . I have put stuff on for free ie furniture and the amount of time wasters I had for that was unreal . There’s interest and then there’s attempting to get something for nothing through threatening people
