Hi guys,

I have a technical question

I have a Worcester Noseband and Wikie Bit. See pic below.

I have been sifting through all my stuff and found my gorgeous Sabre Bridle that I had for my mare. Its lovely :) I tried it on Pony this avo and it fits (if the straps are all done up on the top hole). Its a much much better fit, especially round his ears. At the moment I am having difficulty getting his bridle over his ears without one getting squashed and bent in the process. Not nice for Pony and I don't think he is going to give me too many more chances :D

The only problem is that this bridle's nose band is standard which means his bit is going to be conncected differently i.e. to the reins and bridle piece rather than reins, bridle piece and the worcester noseband. I'm not sure whether it makes any difference or what problems it could cause

Just a reminder, he is a new Pony - I bought him with tack already in place and haven't changed anything yet so what you see in the pic is what he came with. He is strong and I assume they had problems with him before which is why he has all this tack.

Can anyone share some knowledge on this? :)

The Worcester noseband works by putting pressure on the nose when you take a pull on the reins.

Maybe put the Worcester niseband on your lovely bridle, or try pony without it and see what he's like. The horse I tried the Worcester on a few years ago, well it had very little effect anyway. But maybe see what he's like with a regular noseband or try a different bit. I know what you mean about him having come with that tack, but doesn't mean he has to stay in that :)

I had my big mare in a Worcester noseband for around a year, I wanted to remove some of the pressure on her mouth as she is very soft mouthed - I used it with a straightbar happy mouth loosering snaffle.

However having seen someone else ride her in it it appeared that when the reins were pulled it lifted the bit up in her mouth and so her mouth would open and her tongue would come out. I put her back in a simple caverson noseband and mouth opening and tongue lolling stopped.

I would try him in the sabre bridle with caverson noseband and see how you get on, maybe when he has settled in his new home.

my friends horse has a comfort bridle and a wilkie and like you said its only connected to bride piece and reins, and her horse is fine with it, the only thing that will change is that the bit will have a bit more of a gag action as it wont be attatched to the noseband which stops it from moving , atm your horse has pressure applied to its nose rather than poll, the wilkie acts as a mild gag which applies pressure to the poll where as your current noseband applies pressure to the nose, try it see what you think and what pony thinks, they might have put this nose band on it because it doesn't reacxt well to poll pressure. :)
