Wimbles Breaks PaddyMonty - A Cautionary Tale

I don't understand why you can't do some dressage? Ok, it's not horseball, but...
Surely the risk of slipping and twisting the knee is much greater on a boat? Ergo, if you can sail, you can ride...no? <g>
With decent quality modern footware the risk of slipping on a deck is minimal. Modern deck shoes / boots really do grip like whatsit to a blanket. Add to that great care is taken when moving about on deck as a slip at best is likely to end with a soft but very wet landing. Riding certainly puts constant pressure on knees so probably best to avoid.

All my sailing was done as a child many years ago: good to hear modern footwear has improved things.
Enjoy, and by the sounds of it you'll still get horse time albeit in a support (training?) role.

I might take you up on the offer some time, you could always come sailing. Nice little boat.....

You'd always be welcome. Boat is a beauty - I'm not sure I'd be any use, even as a lowly ship's boy [girl]...

Oh PM I knew you'd been injured but had totally missed this thread. I'm so sorry you're giving up competitive riding, I've always rather been in awe of you and enjoyed your various reports. We'll really miss your contributions to the forum.

Thanks. I've just been very lucky in the horses I've had the opportunity to ride and the occasional instructor that has made huge step changes in my understanding of riding. Still plenty of people on the forum out there competing and reporting back. :)

Nice looking boat, PM. What's the sharp pointy thing sticking out on the front?
In nautical speak it is a Bow Roller which holds the anchor. Boat has an electric windlass which allows us to lower or raise the anchor at the touch of a button. The bow roller has been extended to include attachment points for offwind sails such as reacher and asymetric spinaker. These sails are not left attached to the boat, just rigged as and when needed.
