For me, not the horse. And I know I should probably go on a beauty forum to ask for advice but I don't think I'd be allowed to join any, and I figured there are enough outdoorsy types on here that must have the same problem so might be able to offer some advice.

I've always ad dry and tight skin, always worse in winter and it's getting worse with age. I'm 50 now so presumably menopause stuff isn't helping.

At the moment it's the worst ever, I put loads of moisturiser on but however much I use my face still feels tight. I started using the menopause stuff you can get from M&S and that worked really well for a while but it's not quite cutting it now. I tried the Boots menopause stuff and that doesn't help at all, even the night time cream.

So does anybody have any recommendations for something that will help with the horrendous tightness please. At the moment my face feels like what Cher's must feel like after all that plastic surgery!

I don't mind paying more for a decent brand so things in the range of £30 are okay. I saw a Clarins one that looked good though and that was £80 and that's just too expensive I'm afraid.

I use Ilex Wood rose and frankincense face cream, which contains shea and coconut oils. Costs less than £20 and is available from Amazon or direct from the website. It is the best thing I have found for my dry, sensitive skin and can be used very sparingly. I use it at night only.

I almost posted the very same yesterday!
My issue is that the majority of face creams make my eyes burn. I find the more expensive ones often the worst for this. I'm nervous to spend too much, although gladly would if i could use it but more often end up using it as hand cream to use it up. I've spent a small fortune on face moisturiser to just waste :(

My only 100% safe buys that work are L'oreal wrinkle expert- weirdly and as its only £5 from Amazon I use a lot of that, also good old Nivea although I suspect its a pore blocker!

Always on the look out for samples i can try for eye burning qualities first!

My sister who has extremely sensitive, dry skin with eczema uses ‘celestial’ moisturiser from lush.

It would help to know what you are currently using? It might be that you need to add in a serum or oil.

I also strongly suggest using spf50 every day. Wind and sun can do a lot of damage particularly when it’s cold.

I'm currently using a Boots own brand mousturiser for dry menopausal skin. I have both day and the night cream but neither seems to be rich enough to get rid of the tightness. I did buy a serum to go with it but I'm not sure if that's aimed more at cooling hot flushes than dry skin.

I'm quite lazy when it comes to skin care so tend to use a gentle facial wash in the shower and some moisturiser and that's it. Oils, serums and toners are unchartered territory for me.

The Dr Paw Paw range, it’s a miracle worker for dry skin. I have very sensitive, eczema prone skin and it’s completely repaired my hands and face. Before I used it, I looked like I had some sort of contagious disease, my skin was so dry and peeling!

I use either La Roche Posay Toleriane or one from Beauty Pie - called Happy Skin I think? Both are surprisingly light but super moisturising and don't irritate my sensitive skin, I find they stand up really well to wind & cold. If I need even more oomph, I'd probably add a face oil - Pai do a nice rosehip one, Clarins does a gorgeous one too - Blue Lotus maybe?

Deep hydration - The Ordinary Marine Hyaluronics, regular HA makes my skin sensitive
Heavy duty moisturiser - La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+, really helps the sensitivity but it's cheeks and top/sides of forehead only as I have quite an oily T zone
Rose hip seed oil from Amazon
Miracle Balm from Jones Road, Bobbi Brown's newish range, it's between skin care and make up, I love it, okay so far on the T zone but lovely on the cheeks, a really posh barrier cream!

Make sure you use a gentle cleanser, I use the oat balm one from The Inkey List.

Have you tried treating from the inside. Do you have a good diet? Collagen can help.
Remember moisturiser manufacturers are in the business of selling you more product, its not in their interest to provide long term help for your dry skin.

I like the L'Oreal wrinkle stuff too, and also get the burning eyes with lots of other products
I use Lidl's eye contour cream around my eyes and never had a problem with it

Try Lidl face cream - cheap, I find it a bit too perfumed but still use it as so effective.

Otherwise, keep an eye on TK Maxx and go for Christian Breton Extra Rich Moisture cream, about £12.00 from there and I defy anyone to have tight, dry or uncomfortable skin using that.

I’m using Neal’s Yard deeply moisturising 24 hour cream. It’s relatively inexpensive and really hydrating.

I use LaRoche Posay rich moisturiser. I have dry skin and also sensitive to certain perfumes and other ingredients. This is the best one I have found in my many years of trial and error.

came to say child’s farm too! i used to use the baby moisturiser, the one with the blue/white bottle with a duck on it. never tried a face moisturiser from them but i really rate lush’s lotions for the small patch of eczema i get, so would imagine their face products are good too!

Weleda Skin food is great for very dry skin and smells lovely. They also do a light version if you find the original too greasy. I use the original overnight and light during the day.

Great on chapped hands as well, and not too expensive either. Holland and Barrett sometimes have a 3 for 2 offer on it.

It might be worth thinking about using an emollient rather than a normal moisturiser. Epaderm is great. Diprobase or Oilatum are others. Creams are lighter. Ointments richer but great for really sore patches.

It’s really important to get ahead of the curve on dryness as it leads to all sorts of issues.

Definitely use a hyaluronic acid serum underneath whatever you apply. When we moved 2 years ago we went from a soft to hard water area and it played havoc with my skin (and hair - the water is so bad I have to wash my hair with rainwater). Hyaluronic acid serum helped massively. I've tried a few and the Simple one is as good as any and only £5 or so.
I've also started using a face oil at night sometimes. Not every night but it makes a big difference. Just the Palmers one does me. Oh and cleansing with micellar water instead of tap water. Or Liz Earle cleanse and polish. Moisturiser wise I tend to vary; when I'm feeling flush I buy one imported from Germany, but tbh the hyaluronic acid serum and facial oil make the biggest difference.
Also in winter, any cold days I slather on extra moisturiser before going outside.

Try not to use a wash - a cream to clean off dirt and make up is better in this weather. I'm a Liz Earle devotee but cheaper ones are available!

Boots No 7 serum has been my go-to when my skin gets dry forever. It does help but I'm also struggling for moisture since the weather changed and seem to be throwing up eczema around my eyes now. I don't help myself by pulling a scarf around my face I think.

How much water do you drink each day? I doubled or more my water intake as was drinking so little and my skin is the best it has ever been vs looking something like a raisin previously, especially in winter where I was drinking even less.

Drink as much water as you can and don’t have the heat in your car blasting on your face. Really helps

I did try Lidl products, they won some big award a few years ago so figured worth a try but sadly they are eye burners for me which is a shame because at that price and they feel quite nice I'd have been using them.

Unfortunately Im all out of L'oreal and Amazon delivered my new order last night and "handed it to a resident" I was here, we saw the van pull up and saw the guy get out but do you think i can find it!

So its was Childs Farm for me today and last night!

Lots of recommendations here, I was out for most of the afternoon yesterday so didn't have chance to catch up until now. There are lots of brands here I haven't even heard of though so I think some research is order, especially as I'm sat here now thinking how tight my face feels!

I do drink plenty of water so that's one good thing but I am guilty of having the heating pumping out when I'm in the car. We also live in an area where it can be really quite windy and I expect that doesn't help.

Try not to use a wash - a cream to clean off dirt and make up is better in this weather. I'm a Liz Earle devotee but cheaper ones are available!
On this, do you find your face feels as clean if you use a cream cleansers as it does if you wash it in the shower? I used to use a very nice Clarins one years ago now but my face never felt as clean as it does if I wash it in the shower. I have a hippo for a horse and if I give him a good groom I can feel a lot of the dried mud coming off him and straight onto my face! Does the cream cleanser cope with even that level of grime?

Definitely don't wash it in the shower, that's a lot of water. The balm cleansers are lovely and come off well with a wrung out hand hot flannel.

For my t zone I used an acid cleanser every other day but otherwise the balm is brilliant, better than any cream cleansers I used to use. I have seb. dermatitis around my nose so have to be really careful, I only use niacinamide and rose hip seed oil on that and haven't used steroid cream in about 8 years now.
