It's cold. It's dark. Christmas is coming and I need to start a wish list. Soooo what one item would you not be without? For the horse or for you. Inspire me

Waterproof full chaps- they are will be attached to my legs for the next 4 months. Make sure they are the fleece lined ones.

A wrap-around fleece exercise sheet for cold but non-rainy days and a watproof one for drizzly. Keeps ponies bums warm (and dry) while working in or going for winter ambles.

Recently bought a long coat, the type that covers your legs when you ride. Absolutely love it. Much better than faffing on the with chaps.
Dead cheap but I love morf, neck warmer. Great for pulling over your face in bad weather.

Another here that like soft cell breeches .
Thin waterproof overtrousers for doing the yard keeps you dry and cleaner less trouser to wash !
Fleece lined chaps
Waterproof waistcoats I hate wearing coats but will wear waistcoats .
Hats , warm , the madder the better
Gloves waterproof must have no fastenings
Dubarries and aigle wellies and ariats
Padded boots for riding in

Two overalls/coveralls (i.e. boiler suit basically).

One ordinary bog-standard cotton/poly material - this for jobs like poo picking/grooming, clipping, you-name-it

One waterproof or very water-resistant, with a hood - this for wet mucky days when you need to stay dry and warm

A "Buff" for putting around your neck on a cold morning, or for putting over hair and under a hat (keeps hair protected).

Disposal rubber gloves: for wearing underneath plain fleece gloves, will keep your fingers nice & dry when you're doing all the wet jobs.

Both the overalls/boiler suits need to be in a size big enough for you to layer-up underneath and thus stay warm. Invaluable for when you're needing to "do" the horses either before or after work, and need to keep clothes clean underneath.

Both can be picked up cheaply enough on e-bay. I can't think how I did without either item; went to see a horse at a yard and a girl had just done her horse and was dressed in a cotton boilersuit, she'd got back to the car, unzipped her overall, and hey presto there she was all dressed up for a party!! What a fab idea I thought, and copied it.

These are my winter essentials.

I have been doing Christmas shopping today... most seems to be for me... but I have finally invested in a thermatex quarter sheet and schimmel has brush so I hope they will help!

I love my Pikeur winter weight softshell breeches.

Also couldn't be without warm gloves, hat and neck warmer. I've also got a little torch that clips to the brim of a baseball cap that is useful when hunting for horses in a dark field.

Sheepskin seat saver is sooo much warmer to sit on then just a leather saddle.

I have a bit of a common theme in wanting to stay warm!

Good gloves (I have Sealskinz). Wristwarmers to bridge the gap between glove & coat (Stormchase do some ace neoprene ones). Thermal socks. I have Reynauds to am always looking for new hints to keep my hands & feet warm.

I was given a pair of drywalker boots last year as a late christmas present and now would not be without them as my feet have never been as warm and dry. add to that ski trousers a thick jacket and good gloves and I am comfortably warm however cold it gets. for riding I use overtrousers or chaps that keep the wind out and warm in

I ditto soft shell breeches. I have Decathalon pairs & I literally wouldn't ride for most of the winter without them!

Thermal jodhpur boots too - again, for the same reason.

An infinite collection of headbands & snoods.

Warm & waterproof coats.

Sealskinz gloves.

Plus a good handcream (BodyShop), a good moisturiser (Lush) & lip balm (Barry M).

I don't really "do" winter too well! Thankfully my native is much harder than me - all I really swear by for him is Red Horse Field Paste & a lot of mane & tail spray :D

ETA: I forget about my alarm clock - it has a "natural daylight" setting built in, so I wake up to a light room rather than pitch black. It's the only way I manage to get out of bed between October-February!

Warm and waterproof gloves for yard work and a pair of thin thermal for ridden work as I like to feel the reins.

My ariat Conistons 😍

Fleecy waterproof long chaps

My silk camisole from Marks and Spencer which keep me toasty warm as a Base Layer.

An array of ear warmers and snoods

Instant coffee/hot chocolate / Malteser packets you just add hot water too hidden in the drawer

My thermal ski coat from go outdoors.

Snuggy Hoods fleece neck warmers - human rather than horse
O'Keefe's working hands hand cream
Bridgedale socks - several pairs of
M&S thermals or Tu - just as good (and also probably a dirty word for anyone under the age of 50 but don't discount Damart either - I started off my first winter with horse with their lacy thermal camisoles and they were brilliant).
Hot drink sachets for yard - hot choc or flavoured cappucinos etc
An afternoon at a spa when it all gets too much weatherwise :D
Non leaky footwear

Thanks guys ☺️☺️ Lots and lots of great ideas. I'm one of those people that always goes through winter unprepared and overly optimistic ... It will be warm soon. This year I've decided I need to be as warm as possible . I think with this list it should be the easiest winter yet!

I have Reynauds too (hence my interest is keeping warm) and find that ski socks, thermal long johns and vest, wrist warmers, a fleece hat are a Godsend. I also buy the little snap heating things you can get from outdoors shops that you can put in your gloves or boots. I have been debating splashing out on a heated jacket.

I have one of these, its blooming brilliant. I also have a light lamp for my SAD on my desk to blast myself every morning with 'daylight'. a happy me makes me much more likely to cope with winter, lol :)

Gt yourself to decathlon. I ordered a few running thermal tops, really thin but very warm and comfortable plus thin enough to layer up! Cost around £6 each. Plus you can get them in lots of colours. Perfect for a base layer

I've still got a Damart lacy thermal camisole that was my mums and she gave it to me when I was 15. It's a little ratty but still so warm.
Just Googled and they have a website so I am off to buy some more.

Thank you

P.S I'm 30 😂😂
