Wintery Weekend plans?

Lots of Working hunter going on! Just realised i'll need to bath tomorrow..Buzz is going to hate me!

Indeed!! Depending on how tomorrow goes and whether I end up on the floor I may not be doing anymore WH :D ..
Absolutely HATE bathing.. luckily he's dark bay and is pretty clean so I will hot cloth him tonight with a bit of oil and he will come up lovely and clean then I'll just scrub his two white socks, leave some chalk on over night bandage and ta dahhhh.. then he will crap all over his back legs in the trailer :D:rolleyes:

I hate bathing too, as does Buzz, he'll shiver even when it's a boiling hot day! We have the tiniest kettle that takes about 10 years to boil so I just have to do it with cold water. Oh and he will 100% crap all down his back legs in the box, it's way too exciting so at that point it's just green liquid  why did I get a grey! He has got dark legs but they're getting lighter with every coat change so I soon won't be able to disguise the green so well.

:D:D:D got to love them!!
I've got a grey too she used to be dappled with black legs.. 8 yeasr later shes pretty much white with some flea bitten areas.. she is due a bath as she is yellow at the mo!!

Good Luck Chippers.. please report back! ;)x

So with Maisy off games again for the second time this year Winnie is playing super sub. This time it's a 65k so the furthest she has ever been but she has done a fair bit and is going really well! She hit 51kmph in training last week not bad for an Irish mare who didn't do forwards! Mouth work has been good recently so although the vetting is still a big hurdle I'm getting more positive. If I can crack it she will be a lot of fun otherwise she will just jump.

Good luck and have fun everyone that is out and about :)

I’m sadly not doing much for the next week or two as horse overreached and studded himself just before xc at our first event the other day 🙄

To everyone doing WH on the weekend..

Any advice for a first timer? o_O:D I'm only doing 60cm & 70cm because it seems the higher they are the scarier they are.. :p

I've only done local showing WH but I would say make sure you have a forward canter for jumping, but not too quick! And make sure you canter on the correct lead in your show piece as they can mark you down for that, even if you correct immediately.....
Ensure you're turned out correctly and your horse is obedient and forward and you'll be fine :)

I’m so cross with myself! Just had XC with Ross canter. Have never done an XC clinic with bog and he was a bit silly, backwards and just not on the job. Entirely my fault anyone else would have given him a kick and he would have cracked on but he was jumping stuff huge and I lost my bottle. Didn’t finish badly but not what I would have hoped for a week before our first 90 together. Feel like a complete wet wipe!

Hmmm. I don’t know what got into me as finished sj on high this morning! Oh well. I read a post on twitter eventing the other day where nearly everyone says they hated xc schooling because of the stop start and lack of Adrenalin that you get from a comp. I haven’t xc schooled for over a year and forgot I hate it too lol!!!

What heights are those classes? I get so confused with BS, our class layout is much simpler 🤣

Fiona

Pony novice is 80cm and disco is 90cm
Adult BN is 90cm and disco is 1m 🙂

I’m at home this weekend - nothing local that we could pop to so will just jump at home tomorrow instead.

I’m back up to 3 in work so need to get my backside in gear and get out somewhere.

Honduraz is probably ready to go back out at elementary. Need a bit more time to make sure the HPs are where they should be before we go back up to medium. He hasn’t been out since October so i’ll need to make sure I pack my sticky breeches as he’ll Likely be spooky as hell. 🙄

The newbie had his sarcoids lasered last week so we’ll hopefully be back in action on Monday 🤞🏻

Good luck to everyone out competing 🙂

What a lovely pic Fiona! Interesting about working hunter, it's something I'd like to try with the beast one day so will be watching out for pictures/reports :)

Lesson was amazing! Considering he's had zero handling bar the occasional rug change since he went, hasn't seen the school and was surrounded by strange horses he did phenomenally. Plus the fact his owner was being a nervous twit about all of the above... extra good boy points!

First part of the lesson was about being able to move his shoulders which took some serious brainpower on his end, could have sworn I heard actual cogs turning! We then ramped it up and asked for him to walk in a contact alongside me, going back a step every time he started to lean on me and by the end we had a bit of shoulder-in and leg yield on each rein. He's a real thinker and it was so nice to build some confidence back on the ground after the week of accidents 🙈 properly can't wait to get started again now!

Obligatory picture of the cutie himself with his massive ears.

And the pre-lesson "what do you mean I'm a state?!" Could be the ground but he's looking like another growth spurt is incoming as well... bloody babies 😂

XC schooling was a no-no for me for exactly the reasons that you state. Terrible in groups, watching other peoples mistakes and then having to go and try to do it yourself! (and impress the instructor!)

Yup. I’ve never done a clinic like that before except years ago on Basil. I wasn’t anticipating how annoying Bog would be! But hey, if you are going to act pathetic, who better to do it than in front of the world champ eh? 😂

Carrot jumped some stuff... All bar one of the WH fences - we skipped the big green box in the back of the first photo, but jumped the rest, and put some fillers under fences for the first time too. Captain Carrot was epic. I mostly just clung on and tried not to die.
