Errrr well. We provide horses from my yard for national modern pentahlon Uk and will prob get asked for 2012 as do all the big comps. The horses have to be saintly! most are older grade a's or B's and remeber they have to wiley enough to jump round a 1.20 with a relative idiot on board. and finding a horse that is remotly capable of this is hard in the first place. Some of ours aren't the soundest but will keep going and are every much needed as tnhey are old and experianced. You don't want to be giving these riders your best horses as they will start stopping! All horses have to be test jumped round the same course beforen the riders are allowed to jump round, and they must get round the whole course with no real hiccups, which then proves its always the riders fault when things go wrong. Its not acceptable to present a lame horse but as I sais before finding these equine saints is very difficult and most are old.
I haven't read all posts yet but I know all of the British team out there very well. Heather came through the pony club but Katy did not, she only learnt to ride a few years ago. I thought both girls rode really well. I didn't get to see the boys ride but I have heard that both Nick and Sam rode well, but both are good, capable riders.
As for the riders who got back on after falling off, they have to left the arena mounted or they are disqualified. Why I do not know.
The jumps are supposed to be 1.20 but only one or two are that height, most are 1.10.
Unfortunately some countries do not think the riding section needs much training for and their training involves a big whip and spurs. It is a case of if the horse refuses hit it, even if it is complete rider error.
Because the MP is its own sport the FEI do not govern the riding section.
This olympics was unfortunately a very bad display of what normally happens, not all competitions are this bad and most competitions would of pulled the sore/lame horses out straight away.
