Typing this with my foot in a bowl of cold water and using carling as the pain killer..... my wonderful big fat 17hh warmblood decided to defend me when one of the other horses lunged at me..... only problem was my foot was where he lunged at the other horse.... you know that sick hot feeling and wish you were stood in a muddy field rather than on concrete..... you know that feeling when you cant even shout at him to get off and you just hope and prary that when he feels you foot squish he will jump of it..... well it squished and he jumped off..... i loosed him and dissapeared at a half walk, hop, run whilst wondering if too scream, wail or be sick ! He just stood there looking at me in a bemused way - as i went through several "silly walks"

Did not get boot off until i had finished all the yard chores and as soon as boot off - foot now twice the size and has gone very black and red.... no toes crushed fortunatly but i think the pressure has popped my big toe nail off!

So what do you guys reckon...? broke or not broke, visit hospital for the usual 5 hour wait with the drunks or just wait and see what tomorrow brings !

Ouch !! Not sure if all would agree but I Personally wouldnt go on a saturday night i would go first thing in the morning and get it checked no matter if it feels better or not xx

Horses are pesky big lumps...at least you have a man defending you, mine would run away!!!

Elevate the foot and put a frozen bag of peas on it...stop drinking the beer, give it a few hours and then take some pain killers ;)

In bed tonight put a pillow under your foot and if still swollen in the morning then go to the hospital and get an x-ray :( Hopefully it's just bruised.

Ow ow ow, I feel your pain! :(
If I were you try sitting with it elevated with a bag of frozen peas or suchlike on it and a couple of ibuprofen for the swelling.
Self medicate with carling and then see how it is in the morning. If you can walk on it a bit it probably isn't broken (when I broke mine, it was agony to put any weight on). Good luck, hope you feel better soon :)

i had this happen when i was a teen....17 h shire decided to leap and rear on way to field landed on foot....shattered the lot......
a bucket of water with tonnes of ice in is the best covers the lot....as opposed to peas wich have weight and move and only cover part of it.
i would head to a and e now despite the carling....trust me....the mix of carling and pain killers will help you forget the pain!!!
really sorry to hear about it.....bloody horses and their gert big clodhoppers!
hope its not too bad...jump on his when its better and see how he likes it ;-)

ps....spar shops normally sell bags of ice cubes.....get someone to get you a couple....or if you are lucky enough to live near a town.....supermarkets normally have more in stock...and they are cheaper ;-)

now get your foot in that ice bucket :-D

O dear!!! Very painful then!! I had my big lump jumpd onto my foot after a cat scread him whist doing neck cover up which leftd me hopping took boot off to find blood dripping yuk!! Nearly passed out as I saw a loverly deep spilt from bottom of my toe to the tip of it!! I was a combind sp?? fracture!!!!! 6weeks off work Ill lived in a filp flop all that time!!! Get it check.

(Think i have been lucky - very very lucky ! -last night i sat watcing CIS with my frozen sweetcorn (recomended by many !) and a can of larger (not recomended by most lol !) with my feet on 3 pillows - when i woke up this morn i thought i cannot feel any pain..... got oh to have a look and whilst serioulsy swollen and a cracking map of the midlands major roads where the blood vessels have broken - all toes wiggle and i can walk ! Ok cant get a boot on but hey ho !

I am one lucky GW !

Thanks for all the prompting of how to treat - funny you look after the animals but always tend to leave yourself to get on with it !

Ouch painful! Let us know how you got on at a&e! I left it 2 days after falling off onto a wall on my ribs, they got very grumpy at me for leaving it!!!

Just because you can move your toes doesn't mean you haven't broken anything...it's your tendons that move not the bones.
However, if your not in pain then you might be lucky.

ps....spar shops normally sell bags of ice cubes.....

As I have a LOT of big 17hh horses (I once had my 17hh+ RID stallion actually STANDING on my foot (with his hind foot!) while he was covering mare. I was saying '*******' (he was sying, yes Mum!):D Foot was black for a week.

I put WET J-cloths ina plastic bag and freeze them. I keep half-a-dozen home made ice-packs inthe freezer JUST for these eventualities. FAR cheaper (and drier) than ice-cubes and cheaper than frozen peas!
