Wood Pellet Users Beware!

Have you actually had a delivery of the previous bags, Maesfen, or have your deliveries always been in these bags with blue logo? Because I can assure you that the previous bags were terrible and made of paper that disintegrated after a few weeks. The blue logo bags are superb in comparison but I'm very surprised at the amount of damage yours has received, I wonder if the dampness has caused the bags to burst as they're not as robust as some other makes. I had a full pallet of pristine bags and every pellet I've ever bought (many different makes) have pinholes in the end of the bags.

Yes that is what I would think too, I assume if they had arrived like that it would have been noticed so it looks like they have got damp on storage and then burst the bags.

Nowhere on the Platinum Plus listing to say about storing them and this is my second load of them; my previous ones did not have this problem. Perhaps I did not notice the holes as I didn't have any problems or split bags with the previous pallet. I think they're the best pellets I've used and I've tried several but I'm not going to put up with this bad packaging and be accused that it's my fault.

They state clearly on website not to store in damp conditions. See http://www.whitehorseenergy.co.uk/wood-pellet-comparison

And the terms and conditions of sale (clause 8 say not suitable for storage in damp environment, and clause 9 explains you have to inspect on delivery, note on the delivery note you sign, and photograph if received faulty and want refund, and have 24 hours to contact White Horse Energy with this request.

So in future you will know to inspect the bags and photograph any damage, when you receive them.

This makes me laugh. The outer packaging showed no sign of damage so why would I unwrap it at all?
Do they really expect you to unload and handball each bag just to inspect for damage which should have been picked up on during their own quality control especially when you might not be planning on using any for a while? They don't have a use by date after all.

I give up. The packaging of the bags wasn't fit for purpose, end of. It's a good job the outer polythene isn't damaged else they'd be all over the place, at least that is mostly containing them except for the ones that have dropped through the floor of the pallet.

I would not be happy if my pellets turned into this.

Its one thing the odd bag or a bit "pre-activated", but to the point of bursting the bags and having to scoop the pellets up off the floor? Nah.

but you can see the pellets coming out through the clear shrink wrap?

No, you can see the bags have burst but the outer polythene is holding it in until I get down that low; without that still in place it'd be a right mess everywhere..

Thank you. replying.

Exactly. Sadly we get rid of the empty bags straight away but I wish I had hung onto them to tot up how many on the pallet were broken.

My point was that if they had arrived like that you would have noticed without having to unwrap them all surely?

I use these exact pellets and have had two orders from them this winter with no issues whatsoever. Hopefully just a one off but doesn't explain under par customer service.

Yes, I would have noticed the bulging ones straight away if they had been and would have been on the blower to tell them but they didn't look any different to normal then.
The pallet was unloaded and put into the hay barn and it wasn't until I went to use the bags that I saw some were 'bad bags'. I thought it was just a top layer thing and wouldn't have minded so much if it was but second layer was similar and so on. I assume it was the damp atmosphere which popped some of them but it's interesting that the 'good' bags haven't let any moisture in, only the badly sealed ones.
It wasn't until I saw a complaint about the bags somewhere that I decided to tell them through their website but it wouldn't allow me to use their email feature at all so I eventually PM'd them on FB which WHE say they didn't see; they certainly didn't reply to it. They only got back to me because I put up a post saying how disappointed I was not even having an acknowledgement of that PM from a company that I had recommended so many times. Someone tagged them and they finally got in touch.

End of story except that I have had PMs about similar problems with their bags from others so it's not just me which makes me feel better in a way.
Shame, great product.

But they wouldn't have got damp in storage if the bags hadn't been badly sealed. They were stored in a barn, not outside.

I think we're all going round in circles here, but the bags aren't fully sealed- they have holes in by design :confused3:

Therefore they will always be vulnerable to the kind of conditions you can get in barns - water blowing in through ventilation/drips in roof/damp air etc etc

OP i think you have to vote with your feet if you are that hacked off, and those of us who have only had good service from WHE will probably continue to take them as we find them for now :)

My wood pellets (NOT White Horse) are stored in exactly those conditions, and are absolutely fine after 6 months, so wood pellets don't HAVE to be designed to let water in.

lol we'll have to agree to disagree - mine are also stored in a barn btw without issue unless the rain comes in sideways which is rare, but I don't see how a hole can let air in & out of the bag but not water?

I do feel for you, Maesfen, it does seem that you've had one batch that may have been improperly sealed. The product is such good quality that the bags would be annoying, but I'll still stick with them. The previous bags were like tracing paper, on a number of occasions I had bags go and an avalanche as it was a domino effect on the stack. At one point I had three dustbins full of pellets from broken bags, 12 bags in total went at one time and others broke down during the year. I'm actually over the moon with the bags with blue logo, though they're still not strong enough to slit and add water. I open and put the pellets in a big trug.
