I rode my girl tonight :D

Its been 6 looooonnnnnngggg weeks since she went lame, lots of nerve blocks and a scan later showed she had lots of scar tissue and inflammation in her tendon sheath. Vets mentioned sending her for an operation, where they would cut the annular ligament and get rid of the scar tissue. I went for the only other option, steroid injections and leave her in the field for 4-5 weeks, lots of waiting. At the end of the 5 weeks she got an abcess, so now has a big hole in her foot, but its healed now :D

Trotted her up today and she's sound :D The windgalls on that leg are a bit softer now, and I can start bringing her into work :D Soooo relieved. Was scared she'd still need the operation.

you did the right thing - ive worked with lots of horses with various tendon damage and the varying operations to 'fix' the tendon only ever makes things worse. When a tendon is damaged it is not fixable - the only thing that can help it is rest. The more it is 'fiddled' with the worse it will be. Well done for choosing the right option!!!!

Good for you!

OH's mare has been on box rest since July now. It's not serious but she injured the tendon in her rear leg (not the extensor) hitting it on a pole she knocked down jumping.

She's been so sweet and lovely though, she's only 10 and although she doesn't like it, she get's on with it. She's lost all her musculation and OH calls her "old lady" :(

The vet has been out today and says she's got to stay rested until ALL the swelling goes down :(

We do have our 1 hr walks in hand every day so she can munch on some gras but it's horrible isn't it?
